A Great Overnight Stay
Mark Kon 20/08/2017 20:41This is a place you might pass on the road and say 'no thanks' to staying here. But my room was clean and well-maintained. Furniture was fairly new, and nothing appeared worn. The rooms are far enough back from I-80 to avoid highway noise. The proprietors were friendly from check-in until departure. The breakfast is small and limited, but free.
There are small inconveniences. This is an isolated location, so vending machines might not be refilled for a day or two pending a new delivery. But this is a great stop for an overnight stay and a great value for the money spent. I paid $61, tax included.
My only warning: if you're arriving here at the end of the day, be sure you've already had dinner. The only restaurant in Walnut is terrible. They'll tell you it's the best place to eat, and perhaps it is. But if so, I wouldn't want to darken the door of any other eateries here.
Do not get lured into these reviews......
CreteRon56on 17/08/2017 14:32Me and my husband stayed in this Econolodge after i read some good reviews about this place, guess what i was highly disappointed with my experience with this place and recommend people not to get lured into these good reviews they have.
From check in which took almost 15 minutes i knid of got sense what to expect. As we waked into our room which by the way was non-smoking and non-pet friendly reeked of pet odor, later we found out that they allow pets in just any room with small fee.Our in room experience was no different as mattresses were hard enough to keep us tossing and turning throughout night, bathroom didn't looked been cleaned in weeks, from filty wash cloths to paper thin towels to empty kleenex box to messy refrigerator, i think this place needs better management and proper employee training.
After not so good night we went down for a breakfast which was nothing special, we found out that the yogurt was expired few days back and was still served to the guest and that kept me from picking up anything from there to eat or drink.
Finally we went to check out and had to wait 10 minutes for someone to come to get us checked out and give us our receipt. All in all it looked to me like a lodging for bunch of workers and locals, i wouldn't stay here again and definitely not recommend to anyone specially with family and would rather pay little more elsewhere and have comfortable stay.
Choice hotels needs to seriously re-consider this Econolodge motel.
should not be in business
yancy1on 16/08/2017 00:51can not believe the good reviews for this hotel are real. stayed here because of good reviews, but was very disappointed. room was not clean. dirty towel hanging on bathroom door, hair in tub and finger prints all over mini old refrigerator. was supposed to be a microwave in room, but was not.ceiling was falling in bathroom and living room. comforter looked like it had never been washed.man putting breakfast out in morning wore no gloves and just grabbed handfuls of food to put out. did not eat here and cannot recommend.
Quiet night
Melinda Don 07/08/2017 15:11Stayed one night. Right off highway, clean small room with double bed. ...Great price for summer travel. Arrived late we were greeted happily. Lights out after we got to our room. Continental breakfast bar with coffee. Thank you!
Great staff!
RebeccaMAon 11/07/2017 20:25I booked this place sight unseen from a rest area just west on I-80. When I pulled off the highway I thought I'd made a mistake, In the dark it didn't look like much. When I came into the lobby the desk clerk/owner told me he was having issues with Choice's technology and hadn't received my reservation however he offered me a better price than they had and promised me a first floor room. There is no elevator so keep that in mind when you stay there.
Room was clean and much more spacious than I expected. There was a couch with coffee table on one end, and a dining table with 2 chairs on the other end. Our room faced the side of the building so we were away from the highway and it was all quiet.
In the morning there were waffles for those who wanted them along with the regular Econo Lodge breakfast items. The main area of the hotel felt very home-like with a grand piano and comfortable seating.
This place is owned and operated by a couple who live on-property. They also have an RV park out back. They were both friendly and shared stories with us.
I tried to email them but the email address on the business card didn't work- they really were wonderful and if I'm ever out that way again I'll be sure to look them up.
This place does not have a pool or an elevator so it's outside my normal criteria for a place to stay but the hospitality more than makes up for it. The tv and internet work, breakfast is included, and the hosts are very caring.
