Hello,

I would like to begin with an quick intro to who and what I am. I am 52 years of age. Male, military veteran. OTR truck driver for many years. I am also an alumni to Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. Yes my passion is hospitality/food/people. So on that note.....

I recently stayed at Econo Lodge Inn for a weekend with my girlfriend and daughter. I received the room I was assigned to. I asked for ground floor because there are no elevators of any kind for guests. My hip don't always play fair. Hahaha. Well when we entered the room we three at the same time said "ew!" We agreed the smell in the room resembled urine. Well I didn't come to the first conclusion that someone urinated in a corner but man o man that was the thought. Well my experience taught me that it is most likely the air conditioning filter. So I brought the problem to the front desk and requested a new filter. I even offered to install it myself, or I'll take a new room. Well the front desk personnel informed me that "they didn't have a filter in stock". I was told they only had a room on the second floor, which was all the way at the rear of the building. Need I say, that it was worst. The chairs were badly stained. The window opened at a tilt outward to a degree with no protection for a child to fall through if not paying attention. The wifi in the building wouldn't reach that far, so no wifi as promised. Television for those who want it wasn't anything special. Bathroom was clean as well as the beds and floor. I give it three stars for the room. Why am I always assigned to a room in the rear and second floor when the hotel is a non-smoking place?

The breakfast for my standard was mediocre. The other guests were loud at late night as well as day time. The parking lot was riddled with potholes throughout like an obstacle course. It could have also used a good sweep. Music playing in the lot from a car at 2am that woke me up. I found dead stink bugs in the room. It was a two night stay which we only slept in. I will add you get what you pay for. The rate was low, so was the comfort. If you're looking for Marriott, Hilton, or anything in between comfort you have a another thing coming to you.

So for some it may be acceptable but for me it is not. So I don't plan on staying there again. This Inn is not family oriented. I may stay there for myself if I were alone for a night but I will expect an unpleasant surprise. I have pictures that I will see if I can post with this review.

This review maybe long for some, but thank you for reading it through to the end.

Despite misshaps it was a good stay!

I booked the Econo Lodge in Merriville for two nights. I saw pictures of the property and I thought it looked okay. I don't ask for much just a bed and free breakfast! They advertise breakfast on the website and at the hotel, but they do not serve it at all! My mom and I got up early to get breakfast on Saturday morning and there was nothing out, we got back to our room and I call and I was told there was none. I was pretty mad considering this is one of the reasons I stay in Choice hotels! I am definitely going to complain at a cooperate level about that. I read some reviews that were on the actual website and I am not the first to be upset about it, so I know that they are aware. I am going to knock out the rest of the negative stuff before I get to the positive. We got a great rate since my mother is an AARP remember. That is one of the reasons we stayed at this property, as there were other Choice hotels around. I got two nights for what it could of been at another property. I checked in and was met with you need to give us a 50.00 deposit! I was pissed, but I paid it since I would be getting it back. Not happy about though, it was never mentioned. Twice my key cards did not work, the second time was after a long day of hanging at the dunes. We were tired and my mother does not walk to well had to wait to get into the room. I had to wait for at least 15 minutes to get my keys reprogrammed, but that was because the desk clerk was helping an indecisive guest as I was standing waiting. Over all it was a good stay. Out room was clean and the bed was fabulous. I don't think I will stay there again though it really was not bad.

Dont stay here worse stay ever

Pool lighting is falling out of the ceiling and some are ready to fall because they are hanging by the cord. The halls smell ungodly bad like smoke even though you get a non smoking room you will feel like you will pass out. Front desk staff was very Rudy and disrespectful and the tv worked but the channels were all scratchy and fuzzy and the sound was bad. Ceiling falling off the boards above our shower. And another thing about the pool is that nothing worked no pool towels and the pool light was on and you could see all of the chlorine floating around my brother wouldn't even come in because the pool was burning his feet because of the chlorine and the bathrooms don't work so you have to go all the way outside the pool area to go the dang bathroom. And 1 more thing the carpets have a white stain on them and the floors are not clean and also the pillows are wet! Don't stay here just because of the price go to the comfort inn across the street and pay the extra 30$

The place was filthy!

midnightmckinleyon 11/10/2016 03:27

My husband, myself and my daughter booked a room. In our room you could tell it had been poorly cleaned or not cleaned at all. There was a huge pile of hair under the sink. The pillows were filthy with some kind of brown stain on them. The dust was very thick around the borders of the room as if the vacuum cleaner couldn't quite reach it. Cigarette stains on the tub. There was spider webs on the doors (inside) leading in to the building. Cigarettes everywhere along the outside of building! The hallway had huge white spots in the carpet. Couldn't tell if it was a chemical they had put down on the carpet that bleached it or if it was something else. My husband did complain about our room, but the answer given to him was they were all booked and could not give us another room. I understand this place is cheap and things are not going to be top notch everywhere, but there is a serious problem when things are not clean and not kept up! The health dept needs to look at this place. The worst place I have ever stayed in!
