What People are saying

Ejected from room to make way for pre paid guest

Colin Con 13/10/2016 09:33

My experience at Hotel Edem was described by the one English speaking member of staff as "terrible".

I arrived at hotel Edem on October 7 directly from Chisinau airport in a taxi.

At the reception I went to check in whereby the receptionist informed me it was "not possible ". With some difficulty I found the reservation on my hotels.com app. and showed it to her. However it made no difference there was still no room for me. The staff made some attempt to find me an alternative hotel but failed to find one. Fortunately I was able to use the app to book and pay for a room at Regency hotel. The staff at Eden booked me a taxi and asked me if I would return tomorrow when the room was available. I said I would - which was not my wisest decision.

I returned to Hotel Edem on Saturday 8th at 1pm and checked into room 1 I think. I left the hotel 15 minutes to go on a wine tour. I returned at 7 pm wherein entering the hotel I could see my bag packed and sitting in the lobby. The English speaking staff member said Sorry we had to give your room to someone who had paid in advance. Then she made her "this is terrible" remark .

Fortunately there was a room still available at the Regency where I returned via taxi.

I am still feeling angry that I could be treated in such a cavalier way by a hotels.com approved hotel. It is not a nice experience to arrive in a non EU country like Moldova and to find that you have nowhere to sleep at 11pm on the weekend of a major sporting event. For this to happen twice in the same short stay is unheard of in my experience.

Hotels.Com have responded poorly to my concern so farsaying that they would like to reimburse me but cannot due to the currency at point of sale being in Moldovan Leu "and they don't have any credit "in that currency".

Lovely garden and a comfortable bed BUT lots of room for improvement

Edward Son 24/05/2016 21:33

This was my first visit to Moldova and I wasn't sure what to expect or what the "normal" hotel standard is. And this hotel sure has some flaws! But with that said, I do not know if that is unique for this place or if it applies to the majority of the hotels in Chisinau. I'm also a bit unsure when it comes to putting a rating on this hotel and had a hard time choosing between a 2 and a 3. Maybe 2,5 would be a more accurate rating than the 3 I've given.

My room had two balconies (one nice but with no chairs, one cluttered with rubble) and both a living room and bedroom. It also had a big bathroom that really could use a more thorough cleaning (I was met by spiderwebs and lots of limescale). The bed was comfortable and the wi-fi in my room worked great, BUT the sofa was uncomfy, the fridge so loud that I could not use it, parts of the wardrobe was broken, TV only had Russian and Romanian channels, shower was a leftover from the 1980s and the carpet had lots of stains. The room could also use some more cosy lights: only very cold spotlights in the ceiling. No blinds or other way to block the sunlight in the morning. Thin walls. No safe.

Hotel breakfast was not great for vegetarians and with lots of sugar and sweets. But the garden is really nice, with lots of flowers, tables and a small pool.

Good to know: staff did not speak English. The surrounding area is mostly residential houses, not much to do. But a 10 minute walk will take you to central Chisinau. Area is not entirely calm: during one of the nights a neighbor had a loud party and the music was very disturbing even though my windows were closed.

Overpriced but friendly family-run place

Our stay didn't get off to the best of starts arriving at night and being taken up a dirt-track alley way (it looks much better during the day!). Then the staff told us there was no running water in the hotel until 9am the next morning so no shower, no toilet or even washing your hands. However this was not their fault as the city council had cut off the water supply til the morning (we were definitely not in the EU anymore!) After this inauspicious start things did improve quickly (bar the chorus of howling dogs every night). Each morning a very nice buffet style breakfast was provided and the staff were very nice to deal with even with the language barrier. All that being said, this place is most definitely not the 4 star experience it markets itself as but it is an okay place to spend a few nights.

To avoid

On tv only 2 or 3 channels -in russian-. In bathroom no toilets papee no fan working . Poor breakfast . Even close to the center you' ll kill your car ! You can' t pay by credit card . You will receive no invoice or receipt . A single room have to be paid wthh 50 euros per night even on booking.com is about 30 , amd there is no price ro be seen any where .. and the rooms are heated in the morning... during the night is missing

Pretty nice hotel and not expensive

Odessa-Transferson 18/10/2015 23:54

We wanted to see Chisinau for a day, so decided to book this hotel since price was cheaper than most hotels offered at this time. Frankly speaking, I have no idea why Chisinau hotels are so expensive as the city is like communist Soviet Union, but that's different story. Service was OK, and staff were very friendly. Too bad weather was cold and we couldn't swim in their swimming pool. Breakfast was also nice and we enjoyed it as well. Advice if you stay in this hotel: buy bottled water or wine to drink and eat outside of the hotel as it is very expensive in the hotel, and order taxi by yourself if possible as price for taxi that hotel offers are 2 times more expensive than most taxi companies in Chisinau provide.
