Hostel-like and a Little Scammy

Scammy place. Charged me more money for an upgraded room, but then never gave me an upgrade. Also charged me for an after 11 PM check-in. Added charges cost as much as the room.

Tiny, not very nice, most rooms don't even have a bathroom. This is one step above a hostel.

Good location, though.

Booked 2 nights here single room which was very small and basic. The shower was fab but the ensuite was like a box.the breakfast €6 was an experience I was on a mates 50th so it was OK but I would not stop here with my family

Toilet seat broken, no wifi, tv broken, stains on ceiling and in shower, no plug in sink, 12" step into shower, no lift 3 flights of stairs and no english spoken by receptionists. Manager's attitude "what do you expect for your money, we are in germany and don't hae to supply a plug. Take it or move, let me know by 11.00 and I will not charge a cancellation fee".. Eventually offered another room but told our present one was better as less noisy.

Location was the only positive with this property!!

Stayed as solo business traveller and chose mostly it due to its location! That is the best thing I can say for this apartment property!
The hotel is part of a residence building which, although it's a bit old, it has its own charm. You have to climb the stairs for 2 floors as there is no elevator and that can be hard depending on the luggage you carry. Don't expect any proper check in experience, rather hand over the key to your room. When entered the room I was a bit shocked as it seemed pretty "tired" and dirty. Dirty walls, dirty floors - really awful housekeeping and maintainance skills!! Walls were very thin and you can hear everything that is going outside your room-door and mine happened to be just next to the main entrance. Sound proof is something that the owners need to fix immediately (amongst the rest). One more thing that really annoyed me is that they only have regular curtains on their windows and not anything to block the light in the morning - if you want dark room while sleeping, you'll never rest here.
Didnt try the breakfast as I was generally let down by the place and didnt want to spend more money on them when in my opinion I had already overpaid my stay. Only saw the staff on check in/out (not more than 5 minutes in total) but didnt seemed so much proffessionals.
Wifi had a lot of restrictions.
I will never visit this place again! One of my worst experiences.

Atmosphere and character

I am tired of staying at clinical hotels with welldressed staff trained to smile and how to please, - this hotel is something completely different.
I loved the atmosphere, the character, the stairs and the high ceilings and the ability to open a window instead of living in a box with crappy ventilation systems.
I loved the opportunity to enter a balcony listening to the sound of the city.
I loved the conventional way of running a hotel with written and printed bookings on paper.

The wifi was not working - that's just excellent :)
Everyone deserves to spend several hours without prompting their digital lives :)

Nice breakfast.
Nice staff.
Clean rooms.
The hotel is close to almost everything, a few minutes walk to Kurfurstendam with shopping and restaurants. The transportation-systems are near by, - both U-Bahn (Uhlandstrasse) and S-Bahn (Zoo) is bringing you to what ever you would like to see in this beautiful city.

I will recommend this hotel and look forward to my own return.
