We made the best of a bad situation!

Well where do I start! We booked this as it was within our budget and as we have 3 young children the pool was the main reason we booked and to be fair probably the best thing about this hotel. We arrived at the reception at midnight as our flight was delayed. The welcome wasn't great was given our keys and off we went to our 2 rooms (only needed one) the room was ok needed updating, to be fair the cleanliness of the room was ok but seen better, the bunk beds made a noise every time someone moved! As for where the hotel was, Wow!! Hilly, very hilly and we was in room 5212 and to get to the main town was just as bad spent a fortune in taxis, 5 euros from bottom to top, we did walk a couple of times. The food was fine but it became repetitive so we eat out and as for the Eastern Europeans (not that I have anything against as some were lovely) they were RUDE, one even shouted at my 6 year old daughter because she grabbed a few different plates as they were wet. Us as English didn't fit in what so ever, of you came across an English accent it was nice to hear. We even noticed that the flags flying at the front of the hotel that there wasn't a British one like some hotels. The pool was lovely didn't have a problem apart from a small area where a tile was missing so they just covered it with a mat (not good) the all inclusive drinks were either ouzo, brandy, beer, red or white wine which started at 10am and finished dead on 10pm then you had to pay! I loved Crete and saw some great sights but as for this hotel never again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Wish I read the reviews on here before we paid any money out as there are so many more nicer places to stay.

The Aqua Sun Village Hotel - Run in the opposite direction!!!!!

What a place to visit. We've just got back and I can honestly say this was the worst all inclusive hotel I have ever been to. Firstly this is NOT a 4* hotel, personally I have stayed at safer and cleaner 2* Hotels. My family and I made the best of this situation and my partner and I just had to laugh with complete disbelief at how the hotel was managed. We found the children's pool area to be unsafe, consistently poor selection of food on offer, too few staff and quite a few rude customers with little patience (particularly at feeding times!!). I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. The hygiene was an issue in the hotel toilets unless used first thing in the morning. The issue is toilet tissue was not to be flushed but placed in the bin provided. Some customers would try to flush toilet tissue, toilets frequently became blocked and the lack of staff meant they would remain blocked until the following day.

I raised my concerns with the hotel manager and that proved to be a pointless exercise. I mentioned the lack of lifeguards and he told me to watch my child more! I said there is a stack of tiles covered with a mat by the children's pool area that they are walking over to exit the pool (as this was placed over a hole by the pools exit steps!). I asked 'when will you get this fixed?' He claimed to not know what I was talking about and told me he was 'not a technical person'?

Because of how slippery the floors got around the pool area, the lack of life guards, stack of tiles and kids running up the slides (when your child is coming down!) this proved to be at times a stressful holiday. We watched our son like a hawk and did not have a relaxing time particularly when around the pool.

The craziest thing is the hotel has some great features ( the views of the coast, dated but spacious rooms) and on first arrival we were pleased but we soon found we were presented with problem after problem. I cannot tell you how many used cups I picked up out of the main swimming pool as they were floating past.

After the 2nd day we had seen enough of the food on offer and decided to only have breakfast and then we ate out. This was the first hotel where I have experienced chips/french fries served for breakfast. The hill was a bit much especially when we had walked around at the coast for a few hours but on the upside it was great exercise.

I read a review that mentioned you get what you pay for and I would have to agree. Unfortunately if you want to insure you are going to stay in a clean, safe environment, with good quality food, with enough staff needed to maintain standards you have to pay a bit more. On that note we won't be back.

Not suitable for those who are not competent on their feet

This Hotel has a curious position on Tripadvisor as a lot of people really slate it as the worst hotel ever though most of the reviews are often months apart. Confusing as well as the booking documents call it The Aqua Sun Village Hotel, does this affect the amount of reviews. My first concern for any one visiting is that the hotel is approached via a steep hill which is then a 1 in 3 once you pass reception so lots of inclines or steps be aware !
As with most Southern European destinations a quoted 4 star is often a UK 2 star as they seem to make up the ratings as they go. The site is fine but not very well managed i.e. Fountains never turned on , Toilets at the lower pool in need of working locks and water supply. little first world problems. The complex has 3 main pool sites 1) Pool Bar with Childrens Area , 3 slides and Swimming Pool which is a salt Water Pool which my sons only used once and refused to go in. They were mad about Water Parks the year previous but said the slides hear hurt them when they used them. I tried and got a cut on my elbow on the first slide. This is the area where the free bar & pay bar are. 2) On the opposite side of the building above the lobby is another set of 1 Childens pool (small) and a 1.8metre swimming pool with bar open 10 - 5 only. My sons preferred this for a day or too but did not like the salt so we then moved to the lower level pool near the Childrens Playground 3) This was a shelved pool seemed chlorinated .No bar working here though there was a large covered counter there. Toilets in plastic temporary units that were not great in the heat.
Accomodation, as this was not an expensive trip (in terms of the high levels of pricing at this time of year) I was not expecting much but the room was OK. The doors were UPVC , so secure and kept the room cool. The air conditioning was quiet and worked well and had some of the power from Solar units on two of the buildings.Bathroom was OK with the usual darker brown tiles and not UK spec finishing. Our biggest issue was with the bunk beds which needed tightening to stop them creaking at the slightest movement. On day 2 we were promised by reception that this would happen it never did. We used some spare bedding to stop the movement redoing this every day as the maid removed it whilst cleaning. Cleaning was new sheets and a whizz round with a mop so don't expect more.
Restaurant: This was inevitably a canteen so the quality was volume rather that taste. They did work hard to keep the food coming which was not helped by European families taking huge amounts back to their tables and the not eating it. I think they should aply some portion control. Families whilst we were there were few English, few german, a lot of Greek & Israeli (both hotheaded and likely to argue so good for a watch) and the rest Russian and Eastern European. Coffee was only available in the morning ? and the two machines were set up together which created queues. Local Wine & Beer were on serve yourself for Lunch & Dinner though difficult to drink as the glasses were always straight from the dishwasher. There were signs up that children under 12 should not serve themselves which was roundl ignored so there was always spills around the buffet spots.
Lobby: There was supposed to be a bar here but there was not and it was where the Wifi was available so just seemed to be way of stopping holidaymakers using much on the all inc as possible.
Pool bar: This was where the all inclusive bar was run with only ever one barman. As soon as 10 came the shutters came down and the pay bar was the only option which was 3 euros for a bottle of beer. As soon as holidaymakers were paying the party started with the volume going up till closing time at Midnight.

Worst hotel

on 17/08/2017 11:01

I can honestly say this is the worst hotel that I've had the misfortune at staying in. The food is so bad that we ate out everyday, breakfast lunch and tea. For a 4 star Hotel, I wouldn't give it a 1 star. The manager is rude, when I tried to speak to him he told me to go away because he's sitting at the bar having a nice time. When I asked him why the toilets at the pool had been broke for 3 days he said nobody else has complained. I then asked him why the fire extinguisher outside our room is empty he told me to go away.
The staff are so overworked and under apprechiated, he stands there telling them just do your job. DON'T COME TO THIS HOTEL, you will regret it. numerous people have had eye infections from the pool water, including myself. The animation team were the only good thing about this hotel. Thank you to you both.
