Relaxing family break
Virge Con 13/08/2017 23:32Thank you for an amazing family break! We have just returned from our 2-night visit in Shalom self-catering apartments during the Carlingford Oyster festival. The appartment had a down stairs bedroom with enough space for two adults and two children. It had a double bed, single bed and additional foldout bed was provided for us. It was a bit cramped (very little floor space left over) but we only used it for sleeping, so we didn't mind. The beds were very comfortable and we had a good night sleep. There was plenty of space in the upstairs living room with amazing views and balcony. The kids absolutely loved the Fairy park that was just across the road! There was also a stoney beach were the girls loved to paddle in their wellies. It wasn't really suitable for swimming as the tide was far out.
The center of the village was perfectly walkable with children (6 and 7) and probably only took a little over 5-minutes. It was very handy as it saved us looking for parking which was near impossible during the festival. Another big advantage for being just a bit out of the center was the quiet surroundings and undisrupted sleep. The hosts were very friendly and kept the surrounding garden immaculate. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Carlingford.

Mid week break
Joe Mon 08/07/2017 12:30A big thanks to Jackie, Kevin and staff for making Mary and myself very welcome. We were in Carlingford Co. Louth for wedding and Shalom was the perfect relaxed venue to stay away from the hussle and bussle of the town. The Shalom was well maintained, friendly and the food was great and you could ask for whatever you liked and Jackie and staff would provide without any problems. Will recommend Shalom to anybody visiting Carlingford and a perfect place to stay 5 stars from me
A lovely place to stay
cientjehoebenon 24/05/2017 13:47The owners of this place were very kind and helpful. The room was big and clean. Perfect bed to sleep. Although I prefer the West-Coast of Ireland, the staying in this bed & breakfast is a reason to go back.
Appalling customer service
HappyTravellor072on 27/03/2017 12:47My wife has already given our 1* review of Shalom and the owners have responded, accusing us of omitting details. He states that we rang at 8.30pm to say we were still cold. We rang because the heating had stopped working again and we wanted it fixed as we were sitting with our jackets on and still freezing (& Baltic in bathroom where there is no heating at all) & were worried about our 10 month old baby! We rang the house first (having been told to ring if anything went wrong again) and only rang the mobile when there was no answer at the house. When they had fixed the heating, we found out that the heating would turn off during the night so asked could this be cancelled due to it having gone on later than normal and then turning off when it wasn’t supposed to. We were told that it would remain on…but it didn’t. As the room was freezing, we felt we had no option but to try and make contact to have it turned on again as we were worried about our baby’s health. And thanks to their son, who, when driving off after turning the heating back on again, revved the engine loud enough to wake our baby –it didn’t wake us as we hadn’t gotten any sleep! What made our experience the worst we have ever come across was the attitude of one of the owner’s sons when we expressed our dissatisfaction re. our first night. He was very belligerent and rude. He laughed at us when we mentioned the butters and jams they had provided to us were over a year out of date (which they had offered to us when they learned that I was driving to the shop to get some bits & pieces) and told us to “knock yourselves out” when we said we would be writing an honest but unflattering review. It’s not too much to expect a sufficiently warm room in any accommodation is it, especially when you are paying €110 per night. Also, the lack of professionalism continues to shine through with their stating they would share our names with others in the area – breach of data protection! A business should be judged on how it deals with customer complaints and I 100% believe we had a valid complaint. This is the first negative review I have written on Trip Advisor but feel it is well deserved unfortunately.
