Perfect place to unwind

My wife and I spent a 3 day weekend at Flameback with another couple.

The signs off the main road are a little obscure, but just as we were thinking we should go back and ask for directions, we saw a flameback take wing off the bush in front of us and we knew we had arrived.

The welcome on arrival was exuberant! Apart from Krishnan who the main staff available 24x7 at the lodge, Jaws (also known as Caesar), Sharkie and Ruby, 3 magnificent German Shepherds, made us feel right at home from the word go.

The villas are spacious and well equipped, with a stocked mini bar and ample toiletries and coffee/tea. The sit out patios are large and each villa built in complete privacy so that you are able to sleep with the curtains drawn and nature completely visible through the large French windows as you lie in bed.

Meals are at the main building in a delightful large open air lounge with dining tables and large comfortable sofas to lounge in. Bharat, the person in charge puts out chilled beer in the afternoons and liquor in the evenings on the house and evenings are really cheerful with all the guests mingling around exchanging stories and letting their hair down.

There's ample to do for a long weekend. There is a little lake on the grounds where you can kayak, a small swimming pool, a pool table, carroms, and loads of books and magazines. There is a 1000 year old temple with a view point about 14 km away where the staff will accompany you to. Apart from that you can go for a walk around the coffee plantation as well.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Whatever you want to eat or drink is available 24x7 on demand. Umbrellas along with every room is a thoughtful extra in a place like Chikmagalur. Meals are buffet spreads with wide variety.

Overall and extremely good experience. Very well run, neat and spacious, the staff caters to your every need, and the pets make you feel like family. The only area of improvement I would call out is the food, which though homely, is short of extraordinary, which everything else at flameback is

I have been to this place umpteen times. Though writing a review quite late. This is a luxury resort if you look at rooms and infra they provide, it is like a home oops home stay if you look at personal touch provided by the host and manager.
We had even taken over kitchen once and paranthas we made were enjoyed by all guests at that time.
I should mention the drive in the nearby areas which Bharat took us and the evening gathering of guests over drinks to share there travel experience.

Awesome stay

I and my husband visited the property with our two pets - a lab and a dachshund.
Our stay was very good. The patio with the Paddy Villa is very nice place to just sit and relax. The german shepherds in the property are super friendly.

The rooms are extremely neat and well maintained. Kudos to the team. Food is very good.
However, I felt the buffet menu could be better in terms of variety.
Another problem was no phone signal. Which was good and bad both :)
But we thoroughly enjoyed and plan to visit the place again

Just close your eyes and book this place. It was totally worth the long drive and time spent. The staff is helpful and courteous. The facilities are brilliant and private. All the rooms have great views, and you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with any of them.
The food is very well made, and although I'm extremely fussy, the chef made me exactly what I wanted every single time.

Unresponsive, and disinterested

I would've loved to stay here, it's been on my agenda for a very long time. However, in the process of trying to secure a reservation I realized that the team is very slow at responding (they take upto 24 hours or more to reply to emails, and do not answer the phone), and they have a policy that you need a minimum 2 nights of stay during high season. I tried requesting for a 1 night stay because my group was flying in from other parts of India and we really wanted to stay here (plus, the Saturday we were requesting is sandwiched between 2 long weekends, so I did hope we'd get a shot!). I received a response 1.5 days later, saying that it's possible IF the day is a weekday. Given that I had already shared the check-in and check-out dates, this would be an easy thing to crosscheck on their end and respond accordingly. I find this approach terrible lazy and impersonal. No luck for me at securing a reservation, maybe they didn't think we sounded like a good group to have at their homestay!
