What People are saying

One star for the service (bad) and one star for price (good)

Arnold Con 17/03/2017 23:14

We came here using a discount coupon. Price paid was 40 EUR per night vs 70 EUR. Can't go wrong right?

Well, the hotel is old. Rooms are very small - barely fits the bed and table. It's fine if you like the charm of an old, homey, rustic hotel. Mind you, this isn't old in the sense of restored, classic, historic old. This is old like stuff-from-the-attic, grandparents old. So be prepared.

They say they have free wifi but it's limited to the main areas - so spotty to no reception in the rooms. Unless you are lucky to have a room near the common areas.

Lastly, the main issue is their customer service. When the issue of the spotty wifi was brought up, the desk clerk responded, (annoyed and sarcastically) "and what am I supposed to do? I can't really do anything about it can I?"

A little understanding would have gone a long way. Perhaps some complimentary coffee to apologise for the inconvenience, or even just a sincere apology would have been enough. Sarcasm and rudeness was not appreciated, helpful, and certainly not hospitable. Which is supposed to be their core business right?

Price was fine (with our coupon) but quality of rooms and service were poor. No need to come back here - plenty of other options in the area.

Good Location, Helpful Staff

We spent two nights here in December in order to see the local Christmas markets.

Location is quiet, on a quiet street within walking distance of Valkenburg (well, about 2 kms or so). Alternatively, the train station is about 300m walk to get into Valkenburg for about 2 Euros.

We had a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the valley, car park and breakfast area's flat roof. The room itself was cosy and warm, with tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, clock radio, and tv. The double bed, as appears to be the way in continental hotels these days, was actually to singles pushed together, with two separate quilts. The decor was a little grey and understated. On the whole, nothing to complain about.

Breakfast available at weekends between 8 and 10 was well stocked, and quite expansive, although the cooked offerings were limited. That said, I'm assuming it's what I presume is offered in Netherlands, so again, I'm not complaining. Everything else more than made up for that.

We also ate in the bar one day, and ate in the hotel restaurant one evening also. The evening meal was good, as were their wine suggestions. My wife is gluten free, and they made special changes to the standard menu to accommodate her requirements.

On the whole, a good base to explore the area. Valkenburg has lots to see, and Aachen, Maastricht, Monschau are no more than an hour's drive away with more to see.

Excellent room cleaning, decent food/ breakfast

Friendly hotel despite being a chain. Felt small enough and personal enough to be independent with a quality restaurant frequented by local diners. The bedroom bed making each day was exceptional. Breakfast good range, bacon a bit greasy cut into tiny pieces every other day inedible. Friendly reception staff.

Exceptional Customer Service

Stayed in this hotel last week for the Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht. We found the staff, particularly the blond lady in reception, great. Nothing was to much trouble. The rooms were spotless, however we were in a party of six and one of the double rooms was very small. The area is really lovely and a taxi into Maastrict cost approx. €20.00. We would go back to this hotel.

Good location near Maastricht and Valkenburg

We stayed here for one night in a double room on the front side.
I am a light sleeper and did not sleep well because of the noise from the adjacent rooms - very thin walls. The location is convenient but the male manager not very welcoming. The lady in the reception gave us good information about trains etc.
