Good location; average facilities but no lift!

The hotel is well located near the Russian Orthodox chapel in the cemetery and close to the Bauhaus academy, Goethehaus and other attractions. The Ilm Valley Park is just minutes away. My arrival by taxi was marred by a driver who twice used his mobile phone on the short trip from the station. Despite its location and olde-worlde charm, the hotel is rather quiet and the door is locked at 9 pm, after which you need to use a side entrance.
My room was satisfactory, but the fourth floor is a long way up if you have luggage. The staff were friendly and willing to help, and the views from the upper storeys are good. But the breakfast was limited to the likes of smoked meats, sausage and cheese, of which there is a good variety. The coffee was good and there are many kinds of tea available. However, during the day the hotel can look deserted; there is no bar or restaurant. The price of 85€ was reasonable, given the high level of demand for accommodation in this town.

Lovely hotel

This is a really good hotel and having seen what else is on offer in Weimar, we would certainly choose to stay here again. Very friendly and accommodating staff made us welcome from the start. The hotel has lots of character and whilst there is no lift, I would far prefer that to some of the soulless modern hotels you can stay in that have lifts a plenty. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the beds comfortable and the wifi was the most reliable we had come across on this trip to Germany. The breakfast buffet is excellent and everything has a feel of quality. The Furstenhof is very close to bus stops that we used to get to and from the station and a very short walk in to the Frauenplan and the historic centre. Really pleased to have discovered this hotel.

Pluses and Minuses

Many more pluses than minuses. First, the location is great. Walking distance to whatever you might want to see in Weimar. Five minutes to Goethemuseum. There is a great deal to see and enjoy in Weimar and many good restaurants. Second, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Third, one of the most nicely arranged breakfast offerings that can be found - fresh and very good coffee. Fourth, the building itself is something to see, although here we come to a minus. It has four floors (in the European system that means the top floor is the 3rd floor). There are no elevators and if you have a lot of bulky luggage that means possibly carrying it up three flights of stairs. It has WiFi but in order to access it you need to ignore a serious security warning which I was not willing to do so I did not use their WiFi. On balance, it has a lot going for it and if you are not dependent on WiFi (which is also available at the tourist office for free) this hotel should be given your serious consideration.

I agree with a post below that says the hotel is better than it looks. The interior is very modern and clean and the room we got (a lovely corner room) was really quite big. It's a more basic hotel and nothing fancy but good value-for-money, I think.
The staff at the desk were also personable and helpful.
Good breakfast spread!

Apart from there being no cross keys concierge (This is a small hotel ;-) the staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable, and breakfast buffet fantastic. Conveniently situated for Bauhaus uni and park. Ten mins walk to town centre. Will stay there again - Highly recommended :-)
