One of the best ryokan-style hotels
EuroTravelatoron 15/06/2017 04:12I have stayed in some 20 ryokans and ryokan-style hotels in Japan and this one is the best of my sample. It is a mid-size hotel, and the building looks quite modern. The rooms, fully Japanese in style (tatami etc) are new and fresh, smell good and are nicely quiet. The public bath is good. The swimming pool, however, was out of order and has been drained.
The best part, however, is the service. The same person served us breakfast and dinner, in our room, and even entertained us with some polite conversation, which for me was a very welcome, and free, Japanese lesson. I am not sure when they slept, the staff always seemed to be working.
I wish there were more attractions in the area to warrant a longer stay, but the two nights were just right for us. Recommended.
Excellent!
VirginiaMitchon 10/06/2017 20:08High end luxury hotel located just down the road from the famous Dogo Onsen honten. Great room and onsen, delicious Japanese and Western breakfasts, and very friendly staff. Even though our room was classified as a smoking room, neither of us (who are both highly allergic to cigarette smoke) detected any trace of a smoke smell in our room; in fact, the first thing we both noticed was how clean and fresh our room smelled. We would definitely stay here again if we ever visited Dogo Onsen again.
Lovely and gracious
wandaMPaon 18/04/2017 22:12Authentic. Wonderful baths. Clean and immaculate. QUIET! The doors DO NOT slam despite being fire doors, so we were not annoyed with constant door slamming. They have figured out how to have doors that quietly and firmly close.
Wifi is great and fast.
Bathroom is terrific and well appointed. The food and presentation was sublime.
I just wish that they had a bit more of a cocktail area with an experienced staff - but we managed.
Historic and classic, but modernized.
Kei1958on 28/11/2016 00:03Stayed one night with Japanese cuisine at the room. One minute walk from the Dogo-Onsen Main Facility, and enjoyed walking there in Yukata.
Dinner was excellent, and very well served by a waitress in Kimono. Every piece had delicacy and excellence.
A historic hotel admired by many novelists and haiku poets, with classic flavors in every corner including the garden.
Very special Japanese hotel with hot springs
Frederiminvielleon 27/10/2016 02:20The room was huge and typically Japanese, the staff made us feel like royalty. Restaurant was delicious, the garden is magical. They give you kimonos to wear to dinner while they prepare your bed in the room on the floor. The ultimate Japanese experience. A dream.
