Great location
Esther Pon 16/03/2017 16:43Location, location, Location. The Green Lake Park Hotel is in the center of the downtown district, walking distance from beautiful Green Lake as well as the Bird and Flower Market. The lobby presents itself well. Reception staff is helpful as well as friendly and some speak very good English. Those that do not use their mobile phones as translators.
It is worth booking a Business Suite at the hotel both for the size of the room, the advantage of two bathrooms, and the added comfort. I was first assigned room 1803 which was as advertised, but a little tired looking with a stained carpet and view of rooftops. It is a well-used room, which I found somewhat dark and dingy. I didn’t know any better so accepted the room.
However, the next morning, housekeeping happened to be cleaning room 1814 across the hall and it was remarkedly better. It is the same category room so I was able to move into it.
Room 1814 has newer, unstained carpeting, good lighting throughout, a nice healthy, large philodendran plant and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the main street. This street view is much more interesting and because it is high up, there is minimal noise from the outside.
There is good heating in the room and good water pressure in the shower.
I returned to the hotel two weeks later on a group tour and was assisgned room 1111 - a standard room with two beds. It had a street view and was fine for one night.
The buffet breakfast is very nice with both Chinese and Western choices. There is an egg station, but the only choices are sunny side up or over easy. I especially enjoyed the fried rice at breakfast as well as the spring rolls. Though they advertise breakfast service begins at 6:30am -- the buffet was not fully functional until 7am, making it difficult for those of us who had early airport departures.
I would stay at this hotel again.
Great view, best you can get in the city
moet3232on 08/02/2016 10:20If you have to visit the city and stay overnight, this is your best bet. The hotel is grand and spacious. Service is friendly but food is not great. Very average for the price charged. Location is close to the lake, but don't expect the world from the lake. It's just a very average scenic spot. The city has bus to and fro from the airport which is very convenient and affordable.
Kunming City
Tony Don 06/11/2015 14:49The hotel was very nice and pleasant also spotless. The bed very comfortable westerner type. But the only down side in our room was a water drip from the air conditioning vent ! We of course wouId stay there next time.
Not recommended
seed37on 27/07/2015 04:07Despite the moderately sized rooms, poor maintenance and cleaning have left this hotel undesirable: mold in the bathroom sink, shower walls and mat, plus a constantly running toilet that leaked water onto the bathroom floor. Three other lesser annoyances included air conditioning that barely functioned during the day, Wi-Fi *and Ethernet* connections so slow that two different speed tests registered zero megabits, and breakfast that barely met Chinese standards and failed Western ones. The only reasonable breakfast food was a local noodle pot, not always appealing to visitors from outside Kunming. Watery coffee appeared to have been made by reusing a previous day's pot. Finally, the front desk staff on a Sunday understood very little English and on the day we arrived lacked access to a computerized reservation system, leading to a lengthy search through paper records for reservations made by a well-known local institution.. Our only positive experience was with the laundry service, which was fast, cheap, and excellent.
Centrally located but sometimes crowded
Vandieman111on 19/04/2015 06:33This hotel is in a good location but caters to conventions and so may get crowded. The rooms on the street side can get noisy and there is the usual problem of room cleaning based on a random system so that some days you get soap and other days you don't. The dining room can be a bit deserted and surreal in the evening and so I would recommend heading out to one of the local eateries nearby.
