My nephew and I stayed here last week for one night on our way to Galveston for a cruise. I booked through Southwest Airlines website and even though yes I didn't pay a ton for the room, I still was a little surprised by it all. The staff was very friendly, but I was told several times just at my check-in that I was to not smoke, have pets or cook in my room. I told him the first time I did not smoke and I had not pets or any intention to cook in my room, but he told me 2 more times after that. Even at that, I could understand their insistence in keeping their rooms nice and clean and free of smells and that might be why he told me so many times. The entry looked and smelled very clean even though you could tell it was an older hotel. My 13 year old nephew even commented on how nice it smelled. Once we got to our room, the size was great and had tons of space, but it smelled like smoke. My 13 year old nephew commented on that too that it stunk so bad in there and why did they make such a big deal about not smoking if the room smelled like smoke anyway. I told him it was only for one night and we could make due and we did. I thought it interesting as well that they had a laminated cost sheet in the room as well that if you damaged the furnishings in any way or with unremovable stains then it had it listed how much they would charge you for each item. The ironic thing was, is almost everything in the room had some sort of stain on it. I took pictures when we got there in case they tried to charge me for stains I was not responsible for. The sofa and arm chair both had stains on them. I'm usually not that type of person, but felt if they were making such a big deal about it then I probably needed to cover myself. There were stains on the bedroom ceiling next to the fan, stains on the ceiling above the shower, gunk around the shower drain as well as mold all over the bottom of the shower curtain. I just felt for the cleanliness of the entry, I was quite surprised at the lack of cleanliness in the rooms. I'm just hoping they owners see this and hopefully make some changes going forward. It was a great location and the staff was very friendly, just might need to update your air conditioners and furniture so as to invite more guests.

Affordable, decent rooms. The room was good-sized, the beds were nice, the Linens and towels were okay. Rooms accessible from an indoor hallway. I got a room that had the washer and dryer outside in the hallway so there was a bit of noise. Seems like a lot of a working blue-collar guys stay here. Seemed fine I'd stay here again, like I said it was really affordable, and just around the corner, there was an amazing, amazing Mexican restaurant. And a real small liquor store in the little plaza beside the Mexican restaurant.
Family visit was amazing and affordable

This is going on our second week at this hotel. Staff here is more then attentive and always have a good attitude when you talk to them. Hotel provides a washer and dryer on the first floor for guest to use that was a big plus for us so we didnt have to go to a laundry mat. The hotel rates are really cheap and affordable overall an amazing experience we have had here we have had no problems at all.

I definitely enjoy our frequent stays at the Garden Suites in La Porte. It is a non franchise hotel, but always have that sense of home away from home feeling. Some rooms have been renovated, which looks absolutely stunning vs before. The staff and Dee always take care of us, thank you. See you guys soon!
Would not stay here

The beds were okay but the bathroom was gross. The tub was stained, shower curtain to short so water went all over. The breakfast was waffles, toast and cereal, that was it. The management knocked on our door at 10:30 am and reminded us we needed to leave at 11:00 or there would be a hefty fine????. DO NOT STAY HERE.
