Great stay with wonderful breakfast

softballfanatic on 26/04/2017 02:55

Two of us needed a room for a night recently while backpacking on the Appalachian Trail through PA. Because of a car show in Carlisle all the local hotels were full.

Thankfully we stumbled onto this B n B. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was large with nice towels, and breakfast was incredible.

It is true that the home is not decorated in a modern style, but this is a home and it was quite comfortable. Kitty Gelinas is a fascinating woman to talk with. We had a good stay and would recommend it to others also.

Like staying with a favorite aunt!

We stayed for a week in the Manor Room. Mrs. G is a wonderful innkeeper, welcoming and charming and fun to chat with over that last cup of coffee. She is knowledgeable about attractions in the area and was kind enough to provide insights so we could make the most of our limited time. Her breakfasts are absolutely marvelous! Not a single repetition all week! The Manor is conveniently located to Hershey, Harrisburg, Gettysburg, fly fishing spots, Carlisle....

Go. Relax. Enjoy the beauty of the area and the charm of Mrs. G's Manor.

Comfortable elegance in Boiling Springs

mjeffersondc on 31/07/2015 22:31

I stayed here a couple weeks back while at the Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle. Really like that they are short/easy walk to the Boiling Springs Tavern. When staying at a B&B you are pretty much in someone's home, and you need to behave differently than in a hotel. That is especially true here. Mrs. G (or "Kitty" as she is also known) runs a very nice house, and those who "know the drill" at a B&B, will really appreciate it.

The house is Victorian, and while not "mission" or "minimalist" by any stretch of the imagination, it wasn't overly fussy either. Beautiful front porch, and a nice back garden area as well. I was pleasantly surprised to find a piano in the living room. Not often that I'm ble to work on music while on travel. I'll bring some music next time.

My room was extremely clean, and had a wall of books with the biggest selection of biographies I have ever seen. It had a table/desk to work at, and chairs to use as well. En-suite bath is roomy, and has just about anything you could need. The AC cooled the room right off, and the windows let in plenty of fresh air, which was nice in the evening.

Mrs. G. puts a lot of effort into her breakfasts, and they were wonderful both days, and were not the same either. The serving time is 8:30, which is civilized. Be courteous in return and show up on time. We had breakfast on the back porch, very pleasant. There is an elegant dining room, which I imagine for fall/winter would be nice also.

Like many B&B's, things need to happen on the owner's terms, and that's especially true here. However, you're especially well rewarded for doing so at Gelilnas', so just hang with it. You'll be glad you did, and I'll be back.

NOTE TO CAR SHOW FOLKS: Parking is no problem here, however it is on the street, so plan accordingly if bringing something vintage.

Victorian Room

My husband and I stayed in the Victorian room overnight, while in town for the Carlisle Spring Swap Meet & Auction. Our host was gracious and the breakfast was tasty and well balanced. The room met our needs and was dust-free (even with all the decorations). The mattress was soft / worn, yet we still slept well. The coffee bar was a nice perk, and we walked to dinner nearby at the Boiling Springs Tavern.

Quiet, scenic, great food

We had a nice experience at this B&B. Mrs. G was very kind and serves a wonderful breakfast. Any negative reviews are most likely from people who don't understand how a B&B works. The house is very old and decorated Victorian, but we liked it and loved learning about it from the owner. I would have liked a bigger, less crowded room, but for our purposes, it was fine. i would definitely recommend Gelinas as a quiet, alternative place to stay for people like me who are used to corporate/business-type hotels.
