Relaxing friendly stay in Lucca
Virginia314Randburgon 04/11/2016 14:27When we decided to travel to Lucca we thought of staying out of town. Unfortunately the bus service isn't to regular so this was not possible. We then found Giada Palace where we were met with friendly faces and people who could not do enough to welcome us. The room was great , spacious and comfortable, the breakfasts tasty and the staff were always on hand to ensure that every need was met. The bus stop is a block from the hotel , and operates every 15 minutes. There is a convenience store close to buy those odd things one requires

Friendly flexible holiday venue
Karen Won 28/08/2016 17:22We stayed for 7 nights in a 2-bedroomed apartment here in August. As others have said, it is not in the town centre but is only a few minutes drive in (we didn't walk as we had hired a car for the week). The apartment was spacious and the air conditioning and wifi both worked well. I'd spoken to the manager before arrival and he'd arranged for a kettle to be in our room as I didn't know if one was included - it's not standard but I think he's looking into this. The pool is larger than it seems on the photos and the whole place is kept in good order. The apartment is clean and tidy and whilst the kitchen facilities are quite basic (there is a hob but no oven or microwave) this was fine and we did 'eat in' on a couple of nights. Where the staff went over and above for us was where we inadvertently got a parking ticket when visiting Pisa. Not only did they explain what we needed to do but the owner herself drove my husband to the post office to pay the fine and also to translate to the person in the post office. In our defence, we'd parked in an area where it wasn't clear it was only for residents - there didn't seem to be signage to that effect but you live and learn! During our time in Lucca, we visited Pisa, Viareggio beach resort (great beach and dining options but it is mainly private, meaning you have to pay for a umbrella, beach chairs etc) - normally about 20 euro per day for 3 chairs plus umbrella. We also visited Siena, a long drive but worth it to experience the di Campo square and the Duomo. Lucca itself has plenty to do. We climbed the clock tower, hired a 4 wheeled family bike and rode round the city walls and ambled through the streets. We ended up eating 3 times at La Nonna Clara going towards the centre. The food and service were great - my daughter loved the 'stinko' - better than it sounds and is a knuckle of pork! We also found a few wonderful gelateria's, especially the one that made it's own cones, they were delicious! We will definitely return if we come back to Tuscany. The pool was AMAZING and nice in the heat, around the pool was lots of sunbeds which were also EPIC. Just a word of advice, don't forget your mosquito spray, not just here but all over Tuscany. They are prevalent! There are a couple of supermarkets within walking distance, we favoured the Coop - just next to the hospital which is also closeby. It opens till late and Sunday morning's too.
However at the end of each busy day we returned to the apartment and the pool and it really felt like coming home!
Friendly helpful staff
Mark Bon 22/08/2016 18:35Stayed in a 3 bed appartment in mid August. Apartment was clean and spacious. Very friendly and helpful staff. Location is a little remote to walk to Lucca, but there is a Pizza take away within walking distance. After relaxing by the pool in the morning we hired bikes at the hotel for the day. Very enjoyable. Good value, just 5 Euros a day. Its the best way to see see Lucca as its mainly car free and you can also cycle around the top of the walls. Breakfast was also good value.
Family Holiday 1 week no car!
chappersicon 20/08/2016 18:07A very warm welcome we almost felt like one of the family. We had a very well kept 2 bed apartment with a small kitchen area although we missed having a kettle. The hotel is next to a secondary school and very near the hospital and several large retail stores but in general is very quite. As we had no car we relied on our feet to walk in to town for meals about 30 minutes gentle walk. There is a bus stop nearby that runs to around 20.30, this will take you to the wall town and rail station, note its cheaper to pre buy your bus tickets and stamp them as you use them. The trains run often to Pisa, Florence and to the beach resort of Viareggio. The apartment was spacious and towels that were provided were very good, beds large and comfy. Air con struggled to keep up with the heat but it was hot. Breakfast was fantastic and served on the patio with a home made cake of the day or savoury snack, juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, selection of teas etc. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble a very friendly place to stay.
