What People are saying

Over night stay

Philip Hon 21/08/2017 11:48

As per other reviewers opinion - Hotel could do with a bit of updating - but the reason to leave this review is to mention the staff who are really nice. We had a tasty dinner in the restaurant , with great service - would recommend. Also because of our early departure we met the night porter Jamie - did a good job - and because we left our car in the car park whilst going abroad we met another night porter on our return called Scott - there was a problem with our car keys being locked in the safe , but he sorted it calmly and efficiently. We would recommend the Hotel for the service.

Family wedding

Stayed for 2 nights for a family wedding at a near by venue.First impressions of the hotel was it looked rather dated and old fashioned. Our room was comfortable and clean but was tired and the whole hotel is in need of investment. The staff were helpful and friendly.Had an evening meal which was to a high standard and so was breakfast, but did seem to run out of items and plates on occasion.Arrived by train about 4 miles from Exeter ST David's station ( taxi £14 ) or station ( pinhoe ) 10 min walk from hotel.

Wedding weekend

Kate Non 19/08/2017 02:47

We are currently staying here to attend a family wedding in Exeter. After a couple of teething problems at check in we went to our room, room 6. Having seen the rooms everyone else in our group had all seemed ok. However, shoebox is being generous.
As we were being charged the Same price as everyone else, £240 for 3 nights, we felt we were a little hard done to so decided to air our disappointment to reception.
On our explanation as to why we were a little peeved, the guy behind the desk began to laugh, as he obviously knew exactly the issue.
Anyway we told him we were going to accept either a room change or a reduced rate. We got a room upgrade to a superior suite!! Fair play, it's gorgeous and the difference is unreal. Anyway the moral of this tale is do not accept room 6 !!!!!!!!
Pictures below will give you an idea of just how tiny room 6 is in comparison.
Other than that it's an oldy worldy type of place, pleasant enough, clean and our evening meal was nice.

Really was looked after

A quirky hotel, reminded me of faulty towers but in a good way!
Instantly felt comfortable and at home. Staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you, especially Sue, lovely lady!
Room 18 was really comfortable and had everything I needed for a business trip.
Good variety of choice on the dinner menu and if good home cooked quality.
Would definitely return!

We came away for a few days to celebrate our Pearl wedding anniversary, and we found an oasis of calm in the Gypsy Hill hotel. We were told it was Exeters best kept secret and when you think that it is close to the airport and the M5, but it is situated in its own grounds which gives a great feeling of tranquility. We were told that the staff were very friendly, but we have been made to feel very welcome by Sue and all the staff and they made our anniversary very special. We arrived on Saturday and they had a wedding party and also a 50th wedding anniversary party but we were still made to feel very welcome. Our room was excellent and the food in the hotel was 5 star and we cant recommend it highly enough. Cant wait for our next visit.
