In love with the old city
Saad Lon 23/09/2016 23:33Good Hotel for the price, friendly staff and mid range breakfast, advantage of being in the lovely quiet old city - Içerişaher, metro station is less than ten minutes walking, quite hotel, you'd hardly find as its hidden between small streets of the old city
Pros and cons - overall met our needs
NWest999on 19/07/2016 13:56We booked a twin room at Hotel Giz Galasi for six nights over the F1 weekend.
Because the roads were blocked due to the race, we were met by one of the receptionists at the nearest point the car could get, and guided to the hotel.
Once there, we were offered a choice of available rooms and a cup of (very welcome) tea.
The hotel manager speaks great English and he and all the staff couldn't do enough to help us, including when my friend twisted her ankle and we needed to change a tour reservation that was supposed to start in 10 minutes! They really were lovely and went out of their way to meet our requests. One thing that we found bizarre though ... is that we were constantly having to remind them to replenish the toilet paper! There was none in our room when we arrived and we had to ask for a roll in the morning. Then two days later we returned to our room after a day at the F1 and there were a few sheets left on the roll. We couldn't understand why they didn't either replace the almost finished roll with a new one, or leave us a new one for when the other ran out.
The hotel is perfectly situated, we couldn't fault the location. WiFi works well and is free throughout, with good coverage in the rooms. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms also. As has been mentioned by others however, the rooms really were very tired and could do with a desperate overhaul. Not the fault of the manager, I gather that the owners are not wanting to invest, which is sad because given the location - a small capital investment could turn Giz Galasi into truly lovely boutique hotel.
We were asked if we could pay by cash, which we were more than happy to do as we understand from speaking with other merchants, that credit card charges to businesses in Azerbaijan are extortionate! It would have been helpful to have been advised this in advance by the hotel so that we could be prepared. We gave the manager that feedback and he seemed to have taken it on board.
Very helpful at arranging transfers from and to the airport also at a cost of 30 Manat each way.
Do not trust this place
IanD9on 20/06/2016 18:50We booked to stay here in Dec 2015 for a June 2016 when we arrived we were put in a different hotel with few of the facilities the accommodation had claimed to have. Instead we had no hot water, the wifi had to be fixed after day 1 and there are no facilities at all.
When I went to pay they tried to charge me a price higher than was shown on my booking confirmation.
Great location, excellent front desk staff but the place is a scam do not trust this.
Very helpful staff
on 19/06/2016 22:54Stayed at giz galasi for f1 weekend. Fantastic location and staff went out of their way to help.
Rooms and bathrooms adequate for our needs. Decor tired. I think no a place if you want luxury.
Didn't try the breakfast as wasn't up in time. Great little inexpensive restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
Overall very impressed with baku.
Would stay again in this location.
