Fantastic Thalasso Spa
David Aon 19/08/2017 15:35My wife and I were staying in the Harbour Area of Porto Rico with our son (15) and daughter (22). Before travelling we had heard many great things about the Thalasso Spa and Pool at the Gloria Palace, and this was confirmed by some of the staff in local bars. We sent an email to the Spa Team via their website and were very pleased with their excellent response, which included pricing and a brochure of the available services. We immediately decided that we should plan to visit the Spa on one of our days.
We decided to take a taxi to the hotel as it's at the top of the cliff. On arrival at the hotel, the reception staff were very helpful in pointing out where to find the Thalasso Spa. On arrival in the spa the gentleman who greeted us made us feel very welcome and explained the services available to us. We decided that we would opt for 2-hours use of the Spa Pool, with an additional 3rd hour in the Sauna and Steam Rooms. The cost was a very reasonable EUR30 each which included Towel and Robe hire, as well as a very fetching shower cap which was mandatory in the pool areas. Lockers require a 1 euro coin which is returned.
The Thalasso Spa pool is a salt water pool with a variety of waterfalls, Jacuzzis and other features. If you move from station to station around the pool, you can fully enjoy every feature within the two hours. There is a cold water pool which m son and daughter braved, but neither I or my wife were keen. The staff around the pool were very pleasant and helpful and there was a supply of fresh fruit and drinking water. The pool was surrounded by sun loungers to relax in, and you could also enjoy magnificent views across the sea, which were made better by the open doors allowing you to take in the fresh sea air. The Saunas and Steam Rooms are on the upper floor, with plenty of showers with various options to get you feeling revitalised.
The Spa was beautifully clean and well presented, as was every bit of the hotel which we saw. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Even though we weren't staying at the hotel, they made us very welcome indeed, and even helped us to get a taxi back to our own accommodation.
The Gloria Palace Hotel looks very impressive, and the bars, food outlets and shops within the hotel look very impressive. We will certainly look at staying at the hotel on our next visit to Gran Canaria based on experiences from our short visit.
Little disappointed on our 2nd return
on 19/08/2017 13:36My partner and I stayed at the Gloria Palace this time 3 years ago and fell completely in love with the place . Everything was just how it was meant to be definitely 4 if not 5 star quality . Unfortunately I can't say the same thing this time around after a really long day travelling (especially for me 25 weeks pregnant) we couldn't wait to get to the room put feet up . We asked for a pool view room on 2nd floor as im pregnant but we were put down in the basement basically -7 . My partner went reception to complain and they did manage to get us changed for the next day on to the 7th floor which was clearly better then -7 but was still alot of walking for pregant woman in that heat ! We only go bed and breakfast the food is okay very hard to get hot food it's either luke warm or cold ! The pool needs a little TLC there are alot of tiles missing you could feel it on bottom of your feet ! And our last day was just a complete disappointment my partner had asked 2 days before we were to check out if we could keep our room until about 4pm as we weren't leaving until 5pm bare in mind we said we would pay whatever the rate was, just if i wanted to have a rest before we left as it would be a very long day but they said we would have to see on morning of check out . Morning of check out went down to see and they said nothing we can do but we can offer a courtesy room for an hour to change and shower now check out is 12 so we wanted it for about 3 to 4 so we could enjoy our last day but all they could give us was 1 to 2 now check out is at 12 so what would the point in that so we checked out at half 10 went down by the pool for the couple hours then up to have our showers . To say I was in shock at the state of the room was an understatement it wasn't cleaned after the people who used it before us now I don't blame the cleaners they were brilliant our whole stay could never say a bad word about them , the staff at reception should get it checked off by cleaner after every use to make sure it is ready for the next guests . I don't think we will be returning which is very hard for us to say as we had such an amazing first visit here and unfortunately the 2nd visit was not up to the same standards .
Patchy
southyorkshirelasson 18/08/2017 09:40Lovely hotel well located with nice pools, however the food at the evening meal has gone from bad to worse, I struggle to find any meat free options, all the salads and prepared vegetable dishes have meat added to them, so has the rice and pasta dishes. I complained to the restaurant manager who informed me I should just ask for a vegetarian meal. He missed the point, they always have a special cuisine on every night and they are always with meat. I have paid good money to stay here and I am so dissapointed. If you fancy staying here and you are vegetarian look elsewhere.
Slightly disappointed
NicolaJackson1977on 17/08/2017 19:36This is a hard review to write as it was mainly positive til the last day. There are a few things I wasn't happy with but still felt positive until the end. We were half board so had to pay for drinks which are very high priced. They even hid the water machine at lunch meaning i paid 6 euro for water or went without.
The pool needs looking at with tiles falling off, my son cut his foot quite badly which meant a lot of cream and plasters for a couple of days. The pool assistant however was really helpful with the medical attention he provided when it first happened.
What spoilt it completely was after we had checked out at 11 which was a bit early when we went to reception an hour or so later for our lunch voucher as we would miss tea we were told breakfast was our last meal as we were 'only' half board so we then had to head out the hotel to get lunch. After paying over £3000 for the holiday I expected to be entitled to two meals on the last day especially as we have a little one. To be told you are only half board was an insult to me. I only had one meal a day most days as we like to explore but I wouldn't expect them to give me that money back for those meals i missed!
The hotel is 4 star to be fair but I won't be returning as by the time you have paid for additional food and drinks depending on your board it is a £5k plus holiday and i think you could get better for that money.
Relaxing
Ronnyargyle1on 17/08/2017 16:07Agree with all that has been said.
I want to also state that the staff that work extremely long hours and at times i would suggest that on occasions more could be working, as a guest you sont want to see the staff under pressure
