Average Higher-End China Hotel
Victorious_MUHon 09/02/2016 07:14Rooms are big. The mattress is not a plank of wood like most Chinese hotel beds. My room was rank from years of cigarette smoke. When I realised this, I asked for a non-smoking room, but there were none available during my 3-night stay.
The design is over-the-top gaudy, which is par for the course in China. The hotel bar is thick with Chinese cigarette smoke, which wafts into the lobby area, which is par for the course in Changsha.
The service is good. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, which was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, they got the broad strokes right but are lacking in the details. For example, they have "Do Not Disturb" signs that are inserted into the room door's entry card slot, effectively preventing anyone from inserting a room card key into it. Well, despite my putting the "Do Not Disturb" sign into my room door's entry card slot, my room was entered and cleaned while I was not there. The person who cleaned my room threw away some things that were not super important but still something I didn't want thrown away. Unlike other hotels in China, they stopped coming into my room after I called to complain. I didn't need the maid to call me to apologise profusely, however. That was totally unnecessary.
During my first night, the power in my room cut inexplicably. I only realised this when my room had turned into a refrigerator and my backup alarm clock rang, because my primary alarm clock had no more electricity.
Just pure quality on offer here!

The Gold Source Saved Our Lives
LandFTravelon 16/06/2015 01:26We got to our original hotel in Changsha and it was, um, not nice. We were so tired and wet and tired when we got to the Gold Source and the staff was SO nice and so helpful. The room was warm and cute and clean. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean. The buffet breakfast was yummy and when the staff saw Westerners coming in (us) they ran got us forks without us even asking! So sweet. The Ferris Wheel outside is a treat, as well as the dancing in the plaza outside. We had a great stay at the Gold Source and want to thank them for a truly pleasing visit.
Chansha Asiandates
mahurinronon 07/07/2014 04:33The Gold Source Hotel is great. The staff are wonderful, and deserve a tip even in China. Although many Chinese smoke, the fans kept the room clear. The views are fantastic. The staff are polite, but few speak English. However, if you are visiting as part of the AsianDate tour, be advised that it is likely that none of the women you met on line will be present. That's right, even if they agreed to meet you. The two women who said they would meet me were "unavailable" for the entire ten days I was in Changsha. I am informed an believe the interpreters take great liberty in getting men to attend the Asiandates events. Even such a nice hotel as the Golden Source cannot erase the disappointment. And the Bank of China next door was unable to exchange US money for Chinese currency. Hard to accept as true, but that is my experience.
good value 4-star hotel
aardvigatoron 25/10/2013 05:42It is a very nice hotel. I had no complaints. Room and carpets were clean. (I was on the no smoking floor.) Buffet breakfast was very good, and they have an espresso machine so you can get real coffee. Some staff persons speak good English.
