What People are saying

Third Visit and it gets better every time!

I love the ambiance and the character of this hotel. Management has made even more improvements this time. We enjoy the complimentary happy hour, breakfast and they even had a huge spread of sushi for us from 5 to 7. Perfect location near the capitol and it's great when coming to visit the FSU students.

Filthy

I wanted to love this hotel. It has so many wonderful things going for it. The staff is very accommodating and the location is great. It has some interesting history. The rooms are a nice size. However, It is the dirtiest hotel have ever been in and is seemingly just run down. Black fingerprints all over the bathroom doors, chipped and peeled paint. Poor lighting, The AC was so bad in our room that we had to change rooms. Sadly, the second room was even dirtier than the first. I don't even want to know what is splashed all over the picture hanging above the bed. The antiques in the room are nicely placed but look like they just came from the flea market...no cleaning, repair, or maintenance. The whole place just looks rather shabby. "Cringy' as my daughters would say. Too bad. Loads of potential.

Great Location - Historic Hotel.

I had graduated from FSU several years ago - I had always wanted to stay here.
The location is downtown - you can walk to shopping and restaurants. Some noise
from Clyde's across the street. Each room is named after a previous Florida Governor. Very quaint hotel - snacks for sales in the lobby, coffee always available
with a nightly Manager's reception. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They offer
no elevator, the rooms are small, the TV is very small as well. The comforter on the
bed was very old - not sure if it was clean or not. Liked the 2 ply toilet tissue in the
bathrooms - the bathroom amenities were top shelf. Liked that they secured a
guest discount of 20% at a local walkable restaurant. You have to valet park here.
I will be back here - will upgrade my room the next time. Keep Up The Good Work.

Was just ok

I had been curious about the Governors Inn since my first visit to FSU a year ago and decided to stay there during my son's orientation. Parking is a nightmare in Tally so I decided to valet. The young man was pleasant who took my car and when I returned I asked him to have it waiting at a certain time due to tight schedule. As I checked in I was greeted warmly with a bright smile by a lady at the front desk and then went to my room. The interior of the Inn was very historical looking with photos of the different Governors assigned to each room but drab and warn around the edges. My room had a very high bed with a little step next to it to get up and down as well as additional colonial style furniture keeping with the historic theme. My TV was extremely small and very difficult to see in bed. The bathroom was clean but everything around just seemed warn. In the morning when I wanted to leave, my car was never there when I had requested it to be and I had to wait an extremely long time to get it for there was only one person getting them from the parking area. Thankfully coffee was plentiful and hot water for evening tea was nice to have. I think this little Inn back in the day was a very charming place but it just needs a bit of love to get it there again.

Inexcusably Filthy Bathroom!

borabocaon 06/06/2017 13:56

There are two positives....excellent location and friendly staff. Now for the negatives. The bathroom in my room was absolutely unacceptable. Mold and mildew, filthy grout, dusty, hairpins and rubber bands left from previous guest on counter and floor. I stayed for 2 nights and the rubber bands and hairpins were still in place when I checked out. The room itself has not been dusted in ages nor vacuumed around the edges in lord knows how long. The antique furniture appears to be ready for the flea market. Such a shame because there is so much potential. Management needs to take seriously my complaint and those of others regarding the condition of the bathrooms and overall condition of rooms. To give this hotel a four star rating is absolutely dishonest. It is light years away from being four star caliber! I regret not reading the reviews before booking. Apparently management doesn't care at all about addressing SERIOUS housekeeping problems. Shockingly, the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association is directly across the street...obviously they haven't taken a walk through of this hotel in a long, long time,
