Berlin Mitte? Don't think so
greganddeb49on 29/08/2017 20:22We stayed in August and selected this hotel given it's alleged 'Mitte' location. It's not in Mitte so don't expect to find all the central attractions of Mitte on your doorstep, as they are some way away. That said, within 10 minutes walk there are two transport hubs that take you into Central Berlin within another 10 minute train journey, but this did not feel representative of what was advertised.
We may have been 'unlucky' with our experience, but there were several issues - to start we had Omar (the Trainee) welcome us, he missed an opportunity to make us feel special as it was our Daughter's 21st Birthday on our arrival day (the reason for the trip), and he didn't recognise this despite some prompts. Then he was very keen to point out that despite being the lead traveller, I wasn't named on the room - a real welcome! But he was more than happy to take my credit card for additional charges.
We were travelling as a three - my Wife and I in a double room and our Daughter in a single room. Again, we may have been unlucky, but our 'double' room was the smallest we've ever stayed in, with the smallest ever en-suite (where the door wouldn't close in the frame) with a shower, wc and basin. Whereas our Daughter's 'single' room was larger and had a full bathroom with separate shower and bath.
The rooms were both on the same floor, but note, the ONLY lift doesn't go to all floors, as several (including ours) have a half flight of stairs to access the landing. As there is only one lift, this gets very busy at peak times and can add delays to getting around the building.
Neither room had air con, and unfortunately they hold heat. Our room already had a pedestal fan, but this was very noisy but necessary at night, sadly there were no more available for our Daughter's room. We did try to leave our windows open, but the maid saw fit to close all of them tight shut every morning, despite us being on the 4th Floor! This didn't help to dilute the smells in both rooms that seemed to emanate from the en-suites - a stale drain smell - which was not a great welcome on return each evening and did nothing to release the trapped heat.
The general decor was tired, dated and the whole lot needed a full refresh. Not helped by the stale smells, and rusty radiators, nor the dated dark wood furniture or tired upholstery.
The one area where the hotel exceeded expectations was at breakfast. It's billed as a 'continental' breakfast, but it's so much more with an extensive selection of hot and cold food of decent quality, but it can get busy on a weekend.
So, in summary, a tired hotel that is not where it claims to be, with no air con and stale smells, one lift that doesn't go to all floors, but with a great breakfast (would have been one star otherwise) - all in all a real disappointment!
Good hotel except reception staff
Capri007on 28/08/2017 16:56I stayed there for 2 nights with my young children.
I arrived before check in time and said I would wait around as my kids were shattered from the travel. I said I'd really appreciate it if my room could be available a little early, for obvious reasons. The really unfriendly man at reception didn't seem to care at all and let about 5-6 other parties check in early, but not me, and didn't even bother to come and speak to me although I did tell him how tired my children were (this was very obvious too). Awful service!
By that time I was convinced I would never stay there again, but then all the rest of the stay was really good- the room was lovely (a bit outdated but very, very spacious and clean), the baby cot was of good quality, comfy and clean, the breakfast was also lovely, the staff at breakfast plus the lady at reception during check-out were friendly and the location near Gesundbrunnen for us was perfect.
So minus the check in it was a really lovely stay!
Good price quality, impolite reception
Gieljan Eon 11/08/2017 07:11Rooms were clean, hotel is a bit outside the city center but has very easy access to public transportation. Reception was in our case very impolite. I requested early check-in during my booking because I had to go to a wedding, but I never got a response. A week before arrival I called the hotel to ask for it and then they told me it is not a problem at all to check in early. Once we arrived it was impossible to check in early while other people (next to us) did get their room several hours before normal check in time. The person behind the counter was impolite and was not capable to solve a conflict. Due to this bad service I missed the first part of the wedding which is very dissapointing. I will not stay at Wyndham again.

Veronica Con 31/07/2017 13:40The hotel is nice and comfortable. The room was spacious, clean and pleasant. Good location, not so far from city center and very good public transport connections. The breakfast was good and diversified. Many thanks to the staff of the hotel who was very nice and helpful. We've got very detailed information and clarifications to all our questions. We have enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
