Bad Experience
John Son 06/08/2017 16:50I have no clue how this hotel got to 4 stars. The building itself is great, but furniture was old, hallways smelly and hadn't been vacuumed in ages, room was tiny and filthy - we asked for another one which was a bit bigger but still filthy, beds were horrible, shower was tiny and bathing products consisted of pre-packed soap, breakfast was bad, cappuccino was the worst I ever had in Italy, none of the employees showed the least passion or enthusiasm to work in the hotel and there was no parking - the list goes on... Given all these flaws ca. 100 EUR per night was outrageous. We did not try the spa as we were already put off with the hotel. Never again.
Fantastic value for a great location
domtomneton 16/03/2017 07:40Fantastic and unbeatable value for money and ideally located. I've really liked the overall style and the outside architecture, the rooms except the tiny shower cabin and the bad signal of TV channels, the old coffee shop, the cleanliness throughout, the buffet breakfast (I am vegetarian), the helpful and polite staff and the great Spa ... though you need to pay a €20 extra per person plus at least €70 for one hour massage ! I do not mind paying but it's a bit overpriced especially at low season's and they should look at health package as a half-day spa care and treatments ...
The information leaflet was missing on the room and no price displayed for the minibar drinks and no Wi-Fi code provided as well as bar, restaurant and spa opening hours ! And you need to improve coffee beans quality and reception employee's foreign language skills also (lucky that I speak Italian) These small things are the reason why I gave you only 4 star, look at it as a way to improve things and to reach 5 star next time (I have been three times at Aqui Terme for the past year ...)
I strongly disagree with customers one or two star reviews.
How did you get the 4 starts?
hki2209on 17/12/2016 23:22We booked a package including spa, dinner and breakfast.
The spa was OK. Bathrobe and slippers were made available in the room so we had to bring with us only a swimming suit.
Overall, the hotel and the room we were assigned looked in need of a renovation. Old furnitures are old, very small room, the mattress worn out. The soap (mini) bars very cheap.
But the worst part is the restaurant. When we arrived nobody was there to receive us. We stood there, in a huge, empty room with this high columns, waiting to be noticed by somebody. Waiters were running here and there but none of them paid any attention to us until one of them - apparently randomly - pointed a table a said "sit there".
And then the food came! We could not choose an appetizer while we could choose between 2 options for main course and 2 options for second course.
Appetizer: a oven-cooked savory pastry with a dry to tomatoes sauce with vegetables on top. Tasteless.
Main course: maltagliati (pasta) with moscardini tomato sauce. The moscardini were full of sand. Inedible.
Second course: grilled octopus with boiled green beans and potato coquettes (perhaps bought frozen from a cheap supermarket nearby). Tasteless also this one.
Dessert: bunet and panna cotta. Perhaps the only good food we were able to eat.
Last but not least, the service was very unprofessional: apart from the unfriendly reception, for instance, we were offered less options than our neighbors for desserts and, at the end of the evening, we left the room after we heard a waiter saying to another one "hopefully they leave soon". We were very not the only guests left in the room but that made us feel uncomfortable so we left.
I wonder how this place can claim 4 stars....
Needs some TLC
Grace Son 03/11/2016 04:112 nights Aug 2016. 15 min walk from the station. Not hard to find as its in the main piazza at first glance this hotel looks grand however its in need of some love and attention. The room was a good size and the window looked out onto the piazza. The downside is this window was not double glazed and the noise carriers into you room so sleep was difficult. The furniture is old and fabrics on chairs has warn and is damaged. The bed was very hard I think that maybe it had a topper but its been removed. This hotel is also a spa and offers all the spa options you may need. Also in Italy they ask that in all swimming pool you wear a swimming cap. The breakfast was average and the coffee was not good at all. For a 4 star hotel they really need to improve housekeeping, staff in breakfast area. I would not recommend this hotel for the price you have to pay. Acqui Terme is a lovely small town which a 1 day visit would be suitable.
Not so grand Grand Hotel
cozette1013on 04/10/2016 22:10Where do I start? I took my partner to this hotel thinking it would be a luxuious birthday spa gift . What a disappointment. The room was small and very mediocre. The bath shampoo and soaps were really cheap quality...like you'd find in Motel 6. The spa itself was in need of attention, as was the room. The staff did not add much to our visit. They were inattentive and not very friendly or helpful. Breakfast had low quality pastries, and nothing to really get excited about. Too bad because with some care and a good staff this place could be quite nice. This is NOT a 4 star quality hotel. Very overpriced.
