I visited the hotel last week with my husband and toddler. We liked the hotel very much. The apartment was large - a nice living room with a completely equipped kitchen, and a separate bedroom. It was very cozy and pleasant.
The location of the hotel is excellent - right next to the Studenets ski area, and it was possible to almost ski to the entrance of the hotel.
The spa was ok, and I liked that there was a play room for the kid.
We had our meals in the tavern, menu-based half board. We had a choice of a salad, one of 5-6 meals and a dessert. It was hit-and-miss, but frankly it was decent for Bulgarian standards.
The only real complaint is the time for breakfast - it was between 8 and 10.30am, which is too late if you want to ski early - the lifts start at 8.30. A start time of 7.30 at the latest would be preferable.
The hotel was good, but not excellent. We had suites of 55 m², with an extra bedroom and the living room with an open kitchen. The interior was tasteful, however the kitchen was not very well-equipped with pots and pans. However there was a coffee maker, microwave and a little stove.
You could buy extra WIFI for the room at 2 Euro/day and it was excellent !
One issue with that bathroom was that during the night it would smell from the siphon. When we covered them, it was ok.
The restaurant was so so, we had booked half pension, with the breakfast being okay, but the dinner choices very poor compared to what you can get in normal restaurants. The dinner choices varied only very little from day-to-day. The dinner times were limited from 6 to 8 PM, which meant that you did not have a lot of time to use the spa after skiing.
The spa was nice, it had a big pool and the water temperature was fine for swimming, but not like a hot tub. Bring a swimming cap - othewise you need to buy one. There were two saunas free of charge, and you could book very good massages the same day.
The hotel location is perfect, you can get to the slopes from the seventh floor directly. The ski rental in the hotel was poor, there is much better ski rental next to the main lift.
The service at reception was initially a bit harsh, however she really gave us a nice and quiet apartment. When we checked out, the young gentleman at reception was very friendly.
For the price we paid, this was really good value for Money - no doubt about it. But it needs to improve the bathroom facilities to get a better rating.
Frankly, I don't know where to start so to avoid rambling I will deal with this in bullet points.
1. Do not eat on the first floor restaurant, its terrible food and right next to a smoking room which permeates the whole restaurant
2. Do not eat the breakfast, the staff that cook it were sitting by it smoking when we went down.
3. The whole place stinks of decades old cigarette smoke
4. The reception staff especially the manager are rude and argumentative and beyond unhelpful, the manager blamed me for not having a voucher that I did not even know existed, despite the sign above her head saying how the customer is important she just kept yelling until she shouted "cancel" when we asked cancel what she replied "cancel argument", that would be the one she was having with us!
5. We were there for four nights and at no point did our room get cleaned
6. The "free" spa is not free because they make you buy hats to wear in the pool
7. Bring your own hairdryer, I politely asked for one and just got a shoulder shrug (see point four on the reception staff)
8. The reception area has the most inappropriate pictures with incredibly rude sayings, 1980's crudeness at its best, somehow summarises the hotel beautifully really.
9. Did I mention how bad the whole place smells?
In short, avoid!
Small and frozen parking lot.
Interior works in the rooms are at very low level, cables sticking out, etc.
On arrival we found out TV doesn't work and personnel cannot fix it.
We also had little or no hot water in our room for two days straight.
Hallways are cold and long and sometimes it takes ages to get to your room from the reception. Elevators sometimes don't work.
Rooms are dirty and not cleaned properly.
Wi-fi is paid, however if you try to get a coffee in the lobby and use their Wi-fi, it doesn't work.
Personnel in the tavern smokes inside prior to breakfast opening, not good service there as well.
SPA complex is very small - one pool, two saunas and one shower - that's all. Also, you need to buy a hat or carry one if you want to use the pool.
Overall very disappointed, would not recommend to anyone. Stay away from this hotel.
