Very poor and dirty. Extremely basic
daviestashaon 28/02/2017 09:21I have no idea how this is rated 4 stars. When we arrived our first room was 2 single beds pushed together and not a double bed as booked, when we asked about this the lady at reception said that all the beds were like this but did move us to a larger room. Again with 2 single beds pushed together. Bed sheets were dirty with stains on them.
Bathroom was dirty, and a foul smell coming from the bathroom at all times as thought the soul pipe was backing up. The shower leaked and the shower door did not close properly, meaning that after each shower the floor was soaked, very dangerous. Towels and bed sheets were never changed. One day house keeping came in whilst we were still in the room, they were in and out within a few minutes. Kitchen was very basical, no kettle, only one baking tray- this made cooking a meal difficult.
Overal decor of room was very outdated, curtains looked as though they had never been cleaned and there were large scratch marks and indentations on the floor from where the table had been moved previously.
We used the swimming pool once, there is a glass roof above the swimming pool which had a large crack on one of the panels, the hotels way of fixing this was to place what looked like a wooden door on top of it. The pool itself was dirty- sand and tiles left on the base of the pool floor, the jacuzzi was not working. The walls and the ceiling were also covered in damp.
Lift in the hotel is very small and only stops on every other floor. Cracks and lose tiles on the floor.
We did not try the restaurant.
Good value, clean and comfortable
deb232016on 26/02/2017 20:45This was our first ski holiday and also first time to Bulgaria. Skiing was great! Bulgaria, well it wasn't what we expected and when driving into Bansko I wondered if we had made a huge mistake. The place looks like a bomb had gone off, rubble everywhere, snow muddy and piled up everywhere, stray dogs, building site.......So we got to hotel and what a huge relief, it was warm, fresh looking and the lovely receptionist made us very welcome. Our room was a one bedroom apartment, with balcony which was great to put out wet ski gear as the sun was on the balcony all afternoon. Room was shabby but clean, bathroom was ok, lots of space and warm shower. We had clean beds and towels which were changed during the week, we also asked if we could have an extra change of towels and within 5 minutes they arrived. There is no washing up stuff, tea towels etc so may be worth taking or buying from the supermarket a few steps away. TV had one English Channel, world news and wifi had to be paid for but we didn't pay and happy that our 15 year old son was bored with one channel he actually spent the week talking to us rather than on iPad or watching rubbish on TV! All the staff we spoke to, at least 5, were helpful, I really liked the receptionist, she did make us feel welcome and nothing was a bother to her. We didn't eat in hotel as everywhere around was good value so ate in local restaurants. The pool.......was scary and dark, I looked in once and decided it wasn't for me, although changing areas and toilets very clean the pool was not inviting, it looked green rather than blue. Would I stay here again? Yes I would, very near the centre, gondola 5-10 mins away, would say from looking at other reviews this hotel seems to be the normal expected Bulgarian hotel.
Pretty good enough for a budget place to stay for skiing
Les_Vegas007on 20/02/2017 14:24Just returned from a weeks stay at the Grand Montana whilst skiing with my sons at half-term.
Hotel is in a good location - Close to the gondola station (10 mins walk), the town with plenty of bars and restaurants close by. There is also a good small supermarket on the opposite corner which came in very handy for drinks and snacks etc.
The room we had was a studio apartment for the 3 of us. One double bed (2 singles pushed together) and a sofa-bed with a kitchen area, dining and coffee tables, WC/shower room and balcony facing the front of the hotel. The room was also quite warm enough for the season - We actually had to turn it down while we were there as it was too hot in the room, but the 2 large radiators were useful for drying wet ski gear on in the first couple of days when we seemed to fall over skiing more than the last few days. I guess we just got better.
We were self catering so didn't try the restaurant in the hotel.
Free Wi-Fi in the rooms would have been nice, but there was a free service from the lobby area. Room Wi-Fi access had to be paid for.
Ski storage room downstairs was a bonus for storing our smelly hire boots and skis each night rather than in the room.
Free shuttle bus to and from the gondola station was very frequent and very useful and was provided by the hotel.
The reception staff were generally ok, although we didn't have much cause to use them for much, just the odd question.
I'd stay here again as the hotel was perfectly adequate for those on a budget, without being really great. I think that would be a fair review.
Ideal for a budget
NachoJoeon 14/02/2017 11:23A group of five of us stayed at this hotel for a week and had a studio for 4 and a studio for 1. Both rooms were large, clean and included all of the ameneties required for a week of skiing. The one aspect which let this place down was the sofa beds, they were not comfortable at all to sleep on as there is a large metal bar which digs into your back. Pool is average but they let you use the one next door for free, which is much bigger and warmer.
Overall a good stay for those on a budget.
Fair choice
Tasos Pon 10/02/2017 10:16Mixed feelings. We were a group of 3 families that visited the hotel (2adults+2 kids each). All of us booked the 2 bedroom apartments. Our room was OK in terms of space (esp. the bedrooms), plus the kitchen furniture were relatively new. Bathroom facilities might be a bit better but OK.
We were the lucky ones as we were given the room on the 5th floor (loft style). The other 2 families were located on the 1st and the 2nd floor.
The apartment on the 2nd floor had nothing to do with ours (even though being at the same price). Less space, old furniture, poor construction in general.
So I suspect they had renovated some portion of the hotel (not all).
One major disadvantage is the poor English speaking reception staff. We were really struggling to get things done (e.g. pay using credit card, or get directions on who to get to the ski area).
Hotel facilities include Sauna & indoor pool which was definately a plus for kids and adults (esp. after skiing).
The location is fair - you need ~15mins to walk to the gondola thet gets you at the ski area (but there is also a shuttle bus service every 15mins )
Overall a fair choice for us - less so for the rest of the families
Free Wi-Fi only at the lobby, you have to pay for Wi-Fi access to the rooms
