Gustavelund is a good place to have off-site business meetings. Good meeting facilities including large enough meeting rooms. The hotel itself is very place basic with clean rooms for a good night sleep. Serves the purpose but can't recommend for a holiday retreat.

Good structure for business meetings

Gravinson 23/01/2017 08:17

We usually go to Gustavelund because our Company decided to have our meetings there. Spending 2-3 days in this structure is pleasant.
Most likely suggested for business meetings and conventions. Hotel is 20 min by taxi from Helsinki Vantaa Airport and 35 min by Helsinki city centre.
There are several meeting rooms and a big auditorium.
Hotels structure is quite old, but rooms and main areas are still preserved in good conditions.
The structure also has a nice cottage with sauna with direct entrance to the lake. The forest besides the hotel is also very nice.
There are a lot of opportunities to make sports both in winter time than in summertime.
Wifi connection is free for guests, even tough it is little bit unstable unfortunately.
Food is not bad, but definitely it could be improved...
Price is on average level with other Finnish hotels, but a bit too high for quality of structure, service and food.

A surprise midst the wastelands...

A rather unlikely spot to turn up at, in my case it was more of a coincidence that I ended up at Gustavelund; a need to be in the area, and the normal ones I use unsvailable for the night. Some people surely would consider Tuusula to be kind of far away, but in honesty, not much more than half an hour from central Helsinki - you will need to travel by car, of course. The airport, I guess can be reached in about 15 mins on a good day. Location almost discussed, but one more thing: Gustavelund is situated very beautifully on Lake Tuusula, and the lake drive surely would be a nice pastime in the summertime. The homes of celebrities like Sibelius, and quite a few authors and artists from days gone are located along the lake drive, all easily reachable by bike for example, which are kept avsilable to guests by the hotel. The hotel the. A huge buildin complex, from the sixties I would guess, but refurbished and modernized, representing rather typical Finnish architecture from those days. Stylish in a way, and a pleasant surprise, almost unexpected. The service at reception and the restaurant, where they serve a truly excellent breakfast, included in the room price, is impeccable. The room they gave me was small-ish, but very nicely decorated, recently refurbished and in a very good condition. Nothing really to moan about there, except that it was rather cold... all in all, I might happily recommend Gustavelund as a most worthwile alternative, at a very decent rate considering the quality. But remember: you need a car to get here.

Do you want to skate on Tuusula lake? Perfect place to rent your skates

KatiGaon 28/12/2016 19:42

If you want to experiences something special in Finland, take a tour to Tuusula in winter time and rent the skates in Gustavelund.

You can easily make reservation by calling in advance to the reception and ask how is the weather etc for skating.

We had amazing day on the ice and spend over one hour on the lake in the sunshine.
Only 20€ per 2 hrs per person including boots, skates, ice peaks.

You can also get coffee and refresments at the Bar. During weekends they serve buffee lunch.

Expensive out of date hotel

This hotel is old. It´s build back in the 60´s and it really shows. Layout of the hotel is big and very labyrinthic. Overall athmosphere feels like time has stopped there. Even the furniture (public area) are from that decade. Alltought, if you are fan of the era, this is superb choice for you!

They gave us a room, which located in the far corner of the hotel (from the reception). We walked endles corridores, turns and stairs. On the way there was even a indoor garden with huge palmtree (or similar plant). Hotel was totally empty and exept the receptionist, there was no one around. To be honest, this was nearly scary and remainded me of the famous movie "The Shine" starring Jack Nicholsson.

Room had basic amenities and really firm beds. We found it annoying, that there was only two operational power outlets in the room where we could charge our phones. Other outles were dead. Still the biggest minus of the room was the buzzing noise we could not make to stop. It was similar sound which lightbolts often make when they are about to burst. But even with all the lights of, the sound kept hounting us. It sounded loudest in the bathroom. We used earplugs trought the night.

Breakfast was fresh and included everything a proper hotel breakfast should.

The value for this hotel is horrible. Hotel is only appr. 10 - 15 euros cheaper than the modern hotels in the city of Helsinki and it does not really offer nothing you would expect for that price. I guess the hotel is more suitable and ment for business purposes (with many meeting rooms etc.). Companies does not even care that much about the costs of the insividual room.

If you are travelling in leisure purposes, I recommed you avoid this hotel. (Excluding true 1960´s enthusiastics of course)
