What People are saying

Dreadful welcome

MJFS1970on 26/07/2016 20:41

We arrived at 4:30 pm on Sunday to be greeted by a sign on the door saying that the hotel was closed until 6; we returned at 6, no sign of the owner until 7pm! fortunately we were enable to access the reception area as another guest was waiting for the owner in order to settle her bill. When the owner finally arrived, there was no hint of an apology. The room itself was adequate for our family stop over but the absence of any hospitality leaves me wondering how're hotel stays in business when there's plenty of competition in town.

Unexpected and kind service

Did not stay in this hotel, but we had to spend a day in Rodez waiting for train to leave. We had heavy backpacks and were looking for a place to put them. No lockers at train station. The local tourist information was extremely unhelpful (avoid them). We decided to ask at this hotel and the owner/manager without hesitation agreed for us to leave the backpacks at his hotel at no charge whatsoever. It was great to come across this unexpected and wonderful service in a Rodez which was otherwise rather bland and not very service oriented towards tourists.

Interesting building but quite short on value

Neat, historic building. Very well located. The only room available was the "Erotic" room. Mirror on the ceiling and the walls. Quite funny and fun. The rest of the hotel is more 'old world' in style. Apart from that the interior was a bit warn and had some cleaniness issues such as fungus growing in the fridge. Not just a bit but a lot. It had not been cleaned in weeks as well as did not function. We told the desk manager about it and he said he'd get it fixed that afternoon but did not. Though to his defense the Tour de France was coming into town that day. On top of that the breakfast area was not clean. Jam jars were dirty on the outside and full of crumbs. The breakfast meats did not seem fresh. The same dirty glasses sat on top of the bar for the 3 days we stayed there. We were very surprised. It's like they didn't care.

French charm

1. Really great place to be, right in the middle of the old town center, everything appeared to be within walking distance, although to be honest there wasn’t much going on at night. Most of the night life was downhill towards the modern part. We ate in Les Colonnes and tried the local dish “a sausage with potato/cheese puree” delicious. The hotel is nicely tucked away so if you are travelling by car, use a car park. On Saturday morning there is a market in front of the hotel so park at least 200 meters from the hotel. The owner was really helpful to us and even to guests he was unable to accommodate he searched for rooms for them. And the breakfast was just great for 8 euros, wow so much fresch fruit and local chesse and meats.

Central but shabby

bonnie1985on 22/06/2014 10:39

The best thing about this hotel is that it is so central. Also, it is tucked away from the main street, so it is very quiet. It was very reasonable (a special rate via Expedia) and of course you get what you pay for, so we weren't surprised that the room was simple and basic, although clean. The bed was OK and so was the shower room. The buffet breakfast was extra but was worth it; there was a reasonable selection of breads, fresh fruit, yoghurts, fruit juice, coffee, cheese and cold meats. The only reason we were staying in Rodez was for the opening of the Pierre Soulages museum (well worth a visit) and it turned out that the museum's architects and their families, and Soulages' assistant, all use this hotel, partly because of the reasonable price and partly because of its proximity to the museum. If we should ever go back to Rodez, I think we would try another hotel. Regarding service, while we were there, there seemed to be only one older man doing absolutely everything from cleaning the rooms, changing the bedlinen, serving breakfast, and checking in and checking out guests. He appeared to be managing OK and it certainly didn't affect our stay in any way but I hope he gets some help soon.
