What People are saying

Worst Hilton experience ever -

Brian Don 21/08/2017 15:43

[Here's what I posted when they sent me an automated survey] - I'm a Hilton Honors member with about 400,000 points. I don't say this to have any influence, but to indicate that I've stayed in many Hiltons, mostly Hamptons. This stay was without question the worst we ever experienced. The whole miserable story's too involved to cover here but I'll hit the high (low) points: Entering the room, the carpet had clearly not been vacuumed. (The hallway didn't look so good either). The TV had been wiped with a filthy rag, leaving broad streaks on the screen - my wife cleaned it. Something had been left in the freezer and had frozen into a solid block of ice (who knows how long it had been since a staff member checked it). We needed the freezer for our cooler ice packs. The hairdryer cut in and out on high speed - my wife used her own. SO - That night (Fri.) we called the front desk and politely explained things, knowing nothing could be done until the next day. Sat. we left the room at 11:00am and returned at 2:00pm. No cleaning or fixing had been done, but we assumed it just hadn't been gotten to yet. My wife spoke to a housekeeping staffer in the hall who had a clipboard and appeared to be checking the rooms. She also spoke to the front desk staffer. We left and returned at close to midnight. Our room had NOT been touched at all. We went down to the desk and, as expected, nothing could be done (no staff at that hour). We collected a fresh supply of towels, Kleenex and toilet paper and garbage bag. My wife got an extra bag and emptied all the garbage, leaving it in the hall (might this have been a clue for the HK staff?). BTW - We took care to be sure the "Do Not Disturb" sign was NOT left out while we were away. We did this for the whole trip. The next day we had a polite and detailed conversation with the front desk around noon. We got much shaking of heads, sad tales of being short-staffed and a turnover of managers ("we can't keep a manager for more than 3 months") and earnest assurances that ALL would taken care of. Around 11pm we returned - NOTHING had been done including routine cleaning (beds not made, wet towels still in tub). Back to the desk with the same results as the previous night, along with more towels, etc. Plus a second bag of garbage we left in the hall, which still didn't seem to raise any questions with your HK staff. We'd now had 3 days no room cleaning, and the freezer was still clogged with an iced-up mystery item. A young man named Tyler overheard our conversation with the desk clerk and offered to help. He put a heroic effort into trying to clear the freezer but no success. And again, due to the late hour, "nothing can be done until tomorrow" (our FOURTH day). The next morning, we insisted on speaking to the manager but he was tied up in one of the rooms dealing with (surprise) another guest's major problem. A lady at the desk who I believe was an assistant manager, expressed degrees of shock, horror, and dismay. Your staff has apparently had lots of practice in this. The one decent thing that was done was that they comped one night's stay for us. We're not unappreciative, but we'd rather have paid the money and gotten a cleaned, comfortable room for the 3 bad nights. Finally, that night (our 4th of 4) we actually returned to a clean room and clear freezer, so we got our ice packs re-frozen. The hair dryer was still not fixed, but my wife had her own. There were a number of other issues related to lack of cleaning and proper maintenance but I think I'm beating a dead horse. Next trip, unless the Geneseo Hampton is wildly more expensive, we're staying there. I have a friend who's a dedicated Mariott points club member, after previously being an HH member. He prefers Mariott and tries to persuade me to cash in my points and switch. Until this trip, Hilton had done well for me. But my friend did have one unsatisfactory experience with Mariott on a 3 day trip (roughly similar to ours) and they comped him the WHOLE stay (just saying). My wife and I were polite with the desk staff, knowing they weren't personally responsible - my friend, during his problem stay, did a bit of yelling. Perhaps I should take a lesson, since it seems NO ONE is "responsible" at the Batavia Hampton. This stay was so far below the standards we've come to expect from a Hampton the we're sure you have an ongoing systemic problem with staff and management. I'll be passing on all of this information to Hilton directly, since I don't have a lot of confidence that you have a manager who will actually read and do something about the above - your guests deserve better! {Comments re: staff & 100% guarantee} - "100% Hampton Guarantee"?? That's a laugh. Our stay was miserable - my wife is convinced that your amazing lack of cleanliness (see my main comments) is a sure sign of a bug infested hotel, and she didn't get much sleep for

Older facility

NYSnowdanceron 20/08/2017 18:14

The room was clean and comfortable, the staff attentive and the breakfast bountiful, but this was the oldest Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at. I also found it odd that the parking lot was apparently shared with the Comfort Inn across the way yet they didn't take down my plate number even after I asked if they wanted it. Made me a bit nervous. Glad I wasn't towed!

Darien Lake Getaway

We stayed here overnight as part of our family Darien Lake trip. Front desk staff was extremely pleasant and efficient. Room was more than adequate for our needs. We felt the bathroom would have been cleaner but I am admittedly very picky about bathrooms. Beds were comfy and the complimentary breakfast was very good. This is our second stay at a Hampton Inn and we will continue to stay with them as we leave very satisfied.
