Budget hotel at prime location
777chaion 27/03/2017 03:40We flew from Kota Kinabalu to Hangzhou via Airasia and took a taxi to the hotel. The journey from the airport to the hotel was just about 50 minutes. The taxi driver had no problem locating the hotel. I had printed out the address in chinese for the taxi driver reference. The taxi fare was around Renminbi 125 (there were 4 of us in the taxi). Upon reaching the hotel front door, the hotel concierge staff assisted with our luggage and guided us to the hotel reception and attended to our check in. We paid Renminbi 200 as deposit for our room (we booked two rooms so we paid 400yuan deposit). The check in procedure was done in a jiffy. I asked one of the concierge staff about how and where to purchase the hangzhou transportation card ('Hangzhou Tong') and it was a surprise when the staff disappeared into a room and cameback with 4 hangzhou transportation card and gave it to us for free, he told us that the card was empty and we have to top it up at the subway station. After that, we were ushered to our respective rooms; twin bedroom and double bedroom. My sister and I were in a twin bedroom and our room overlook the building facing the shops fronting the hotel main door. Our friends double room's has an atrium window opening up to the centre part of the hotel building that has a glass roof. Our rooms are provided with complimentary 2 bottled water, bath, face towels, toothbrush and some other bathroom essential. There was also hairdryer in the bathroom. The shower stall was okay, our friend's husband who was tall did not have any problem showering in the bathroom. The hotel room is clean and tidy and the room service is done everyday (you have to put the card on the bed for them to change the bedsheet. This card can be found either on the writing desk or Television table). It was a good sized bedroom, not too small, we had space to moved around and could open out luggage to unpack. The rooms came with free breakfast (the breakfast coupon will be given by the reception. I DON'T think the reception staff speak any English. Our communication was all done in Mandarin. We booked our transport to the airport at the travel centre at the hotel lobby (160Yuan for 4 person in one station wagon taxi). Stayed with sister and friends for (2 nights + 4 nights), in between we went to Shanghai for 4 nights.
Good location budget hotel
frank con 02/01/2015 01:56Hotel is close to the famous Westlake n shopping area of town.A lot of restaurants around the hotel including Mcdonald. The famous Grandma's Home is a must!Cheap n no tip Chinese food are impressive.Dongpo roast is recommended.Go early as there are always queue waiting for a table.
Westlake is the famous scene here which inspired Hangzhou poet Suthe Dong Po n Li pai.Chinese poetry are in abundance describing the beauty of the lake which is about par4(450m) distance from hotel.
Room is small but tidy n adequate.Bed is lovely. The aircon is too efficient that it get stuffy.U may need to off it n even open the window to help u breath better at times.I would increase the stars awarded but for the airconditioning. But this is winter n some prefer it hot!
On the whole not the Ritz but adequate n good for a traveller who needed clean tidy n warm room.
Value for money, hotel just a short walk to Westlake
268caseylon 21/12/2014 14:11I was very satisfied with my 3 days in this hotel. Except for most of the staff's inability to speak English, service overall is good.1) We arrived early at the hotel before check-in time. We were told to leave the luggage in storage. Upon getting into the room later, the luggage were in the room 2) Upon checking out, we asked the receptionist to book us a taxi to the train station. She patiently explained that taking the metro would be faster and cheaper. She even drew us a map to show the shortest route to the metro, which took just a 5-minute walk 3) I needed to go to a museum and gave the receptionist a vague description in pinyin. He checked his smartphone to locate the address and wrote it out for me to show the taxi driver 4) I accidentally locked myself out of my room. Asked the receptionist for help. When I went up to my room, the chambermaid was waiting to open the door. 5) During checkout, the chambermaid claimed we had consumed a bottle of water. When we insisted we didn't, we weren't charged and there's no arguement over it. Somehow, although I don't speak Mandarin, I manage to get these services from the receptionists!
But the best part of staying in this hotel is its close proximity to the Westlake. It's just a block away. I can vist the Westlake as often as I like. Across the hotel are shopping malls and many restaurants; including the famous Grandma's Restaurant.
Very average
kypincon 06/02/2012 21:00Although reviewed in the Rough Guide as having helpful staff, we were astonished upon checking in, that the reception staff were unable to help us book for a particular restaurant that night. We were told reception phones didn't dial outside numbers???
We were only in town one night so decided to stay despite this strange welcome. The hotel is well located near the lake as well as many restaurants. The room was a bit tired looking, however a reasonable size, and had Internet access via a PC with pull out keyboard.
Probably the most disappointing breakfast we had staying in China.
No Good
Nisyon 28/06/2011 14:11I stayed at this hotel but was extremely disappointed at how dirty the carpet was. I got sick smelling all the dust. The sheets are clean but other then than I think I was overpriced for the quality.
