My stay not pleased
handyramon 26/08/2017 19:59It's an old hotel the rooms and hallways had aold smell to them. Shower was at on end of room toilet at the other end if I was a larger persion I would not been able to use it. The lobby is the nicest part of the hotel. To me it was not worth $550 for two nights.
conveniently located
Violin-Melon 26/08/2017 17:44The Hawthorne hotel building is a historic site, so stop reading this review and search elsewhere if you want something modern.
I really liked staying at this hotel. It has lots of charm and character. The rooms are cozy, comfortable and spacious with a wonderful aura that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. The rooms are clean and spacious enough to accommodate a rollaway (which the hotel already set-up in our room/$10 fee), and the bathrooms are up to date.
Parking is free and not a problem at all. The hotel's location can't be beat. We had a view of the witch museum and Salem Common from our room, and my children loved seeing the spooky, red-lit museum windows after dark.
The hotel is one block from the visitors center and a 5 minute walk to the harbor.
Only 4 out of 5 stars because it would have been nice to have had breakfast included with the room, but that's really a very minimal deficit.....check out Red's Sandwich Shop; it's cash only but has awesome breakfast.
For those looking for beautifully restored, historic accommodations that compliment Salem's traditional yet chill vibe, this is a great hotel for you.
Historic Fun
greggerandcoon 26/08/2017 13:30Beautiful hotel, decor and finishes. The staff is extremely friendly. Room service for breakfast was amazing (not cheap, but all room service is). The room next to us is supposedly haunted, making it a really fun and exciting stay. Close to Pickering Wharf that has a ton of awesome restaurants. Many of the museums are nearby too.
Classy historic accomodations in the heart of Salem
Durgeon 23/08/2017 20:35Pleasant accommodations with historical charm and ultimate convenience to the many local attractions. It features an historical building with a classy turn of the century appeal. It has a charming tavern on premises where you can get food and drink and there's a very attractive dining room (we did not eat there but I tried the buffalo wings in the tavern which were fine. Location can't be beat for downtown Salem and all the historical attractions. Helpful staff and a couple water bottles on the house each day you stay. Right next to a lovely park where you can walk. Convenience of location so you can visit all the historical sites. Practically next door to the Witch Museum. Attractive lobby and two elevators that seem to accommodate the patrons well. There were couple isolated cleanliness issues in the room which we reported to the front desk upon check out. I'm not a fan of the bulky comforter that can sweat you out, all or nothing sort of a deal. No refrigerator in the room. No on-site fitness center (must use an off site partner).
Love this Hotel!
