What People are saying

Disappointing family visit

Ann Marie Mon 28/07/2017 23:34

Very disappointing experience. If you care about your family don't go there. The place is run down and dirty. Six gun city is just about shut down. Customer service is terrible and people that work there have no idea what they are doing.

Poor tree cover and bathrooms are terrible

The people that I booked the sites with were great and friendly to deal with. That is one of the few good things I have to say about this campground.
We were here for 2 nights. It started by going to check in and finding the office closed in the middle of the day. I used the phone by the door to call the number written on it and a teen showed up a little over 5 minutes later.
If you have a trailer this place might be OK but it's basically an open field with one tree every 2 or 3 sites. We were in tents and the sites are terrible for tents in the rain. That said the ground is very soft for putting in tent pegs and there is lots of grass that helps keep the floor of the tent more comfortable.
The worst part of the campground is the bathroom. It smelled terrible, like overflowing sewage, both the men's and women's, the showers were dirty the sink tops were dirty and the garbage cans were overflowing when we got there and were not emptied while we were there for 44 hours. The bathrooms were not touched once.
We stayed here once before in 2013 and the bathrooms were really bad then, but they have gotten worse by 2016.
This campground is cheaper than the others in the Santas Village area, but when we go back to this area we will not stay at this campground, mainly because of the bathrooms.

They say it's not Six Gun City anymore...and they are right!

I hate to give a bad review, but honesty is always best. If you want to go and just use the water-slides and merry go round, then this is probably a good deal for you. If you want to see the "Fort" part of Fort Jefferson (the old Six Gun City) then it is not, even for free! The buildings are falling down, the wooden walkways are unsafe, and they still have nasty Halloween decorations in the windows (I did not appreciate seeing plastic mice and Freddy Kruger). The old rides are falling apart and there are trees growing up through them. It's very dangerous, and I am frankly shocked that they allow people to walk around, let alone rent out some of the buildings as overnight accommodations!

I took a lot of pictures (mainly because my mother wanted to take my nephews because of great memories we all have of many years ago)...and I admit, I shed a few tears to see what happened to the place.

You can peek in the windows of the old buildings and see nothing but construction equipment and dust. One building had ancient snowmobiles in it (from the 1960's likely!) as well as the old Six Gun City go-carts that were dusty and falling apart. I even asked about the possibility of buying one, just for memory sake (I'm sure it won't work) and they had no interest in hardly talking to me.

I commented, as I left (I bought a few post cards and a Six Gun City ornament since I did not have one from past visits) that it was a shame it was in such poor condition. The teenage girl sarcastically (in a fake sweet sing-song voice) said "well, if people would teach their kids about guns we wouldn't have had to change." I smiled and said "I respectfully disagree with that...people want theme parks like this" and she rolled her eyes.

They are "concerned" about guns yet a gate is wide open to walk in and out of and no one cares what you bring in. Just shows that is just an excuse.

The really sad thing about it all is the many memories that the location holds for many people. They could have turned it into a really cool 'adult' theme park...had saloons open with bars, and yes, had cabins to rent still. An old west theme park with things for adults to do? Yes, please. A broken down ghost town with horror things in the window and chains on doors...no thank you.

Horrible place to bring a family

Went to the campground with my two daughters, one who has a disability and a service dog. The campground has issues with my dog being tied up on leash at our site. They did not want the dog in the park at all. Staff complained about the dog being with my daughter. Then went to the ice cream social where the tractor brought everyone to the park. The staff told us at the end of the night that the wagon was full and they would not be coming back for us......Really???? They wanted me to either walk the dark woods with my daughter who is a "flight risk" or along the state highway. After I complained, a nice family walked back and gave up his seats for us. Next thing I know the owner came to the site to kick us out and force us to leave late night. Threatened to have send the state police over to have us removed when it was dark out. He put me and my girls at risk driving late night two and a half hours home falling asleep at the wheel and my elderly dad forced to be out past his normal day, he fell at the camp as he was walking in the dark and during thunder storm and heavy downpours. Not family oriented at all. Stay away from this place.

What a let down

We didn't camp there we just went to the kids park. This place has seen better days, it doesn't look like anyone has done anything for upkeep since it was new 60 years ago.The restrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a month, they were very dirty. It has the potential to be so much more even if it was just cleaned. It was 12.95 for a bracelet for our son so it was cheap. Adults didn't need to pay unless they went on the rides. There were only a few rides and 2 water slides. The bumper boats were in green algae water and when the kids sprayed each other I was concerned about disease. There were polliwogs and floating trash as well.
The staff (all teenagers) were very nice. We stayed an hour then left because our son had been on everything a few times.Compared to Santa's Village or Clark's Trading Post it was a bust. I'm sure it was a great place 40 years ago but it looks like a ghost town now.
