What People are saying

This hotel is becoming very NICE

bhavik222on 29/07/2016 09:52

The hotel is under renovation, but they are doing some amazing things over there. The hotel is pretty much brand new, and probably will be the best hotel in the entire region, yet alone the city. I look forward to staying here often!

Old Hotel

This is a VERY old hotel. It used to be a real nice Holiday Inn at one time, and now its just an independent hotel and not part of a brand. This place is also a terrible eye sore with the section that is being demolished with piles of debris and concrete in the parking lot. I had read in the local paper that this hotel was sold to Hilton brand but this hotel does not even come close to what a Hilton should be...maybe in time, but for now this place needs serious help!! The Staff was hard to find, barely anyone in the hotel, and no feeling of being welcomed. I arrived in the evening and spoke to a young lady who claimed to be a Night Operations Manager and she seemed very frustrated with my questions about the hotel and even rolled her eyes at me when I asked about the eye sore of the building that was being demolished. Not sure what plans the management has for this hotel but it needs lots of work, and friendly management. I can think of other hotels in the area that deserve my business.

Was an old hotel but staff was friendly. Was close to the interstate and Mercy Hospital I needed to go to. Many restaurants in the area. Also a dog friendly hotel. I stayed there twice and if need to return to Joplin would stay again.

Business trip

I booked my room at what was, at the time, a Holiday Inn and learned of the brand change just prior to arrival. I called and talked to the front desk who informed me of the brand change and said that they were renovating to become a Doubletree. When we arrived what we found was a lobby that had a horrible musky odor that was only covered by the smell of stagnant water coming from the large water display near the restaurant. Rather than change the water, it seemed as though they just sprayed deodorizer (by the bucket) in the morning and that would wear off by the afternoon. The rooms looked as though they had newer carpet and were pretty clean but the bathrooms were out of the 1980's and did not ventilate at all so every shower was like a steam bath and mildew was developing on the ceiling. The restaurant staff for breakfast was very nice and it wasn't bad. The crazy guy with the guitar that would roam the lobby in the morning playing the guitar or pounding on the piano was less than entertaining and a little odd. If they are really changing over to a Doubletree then need to double-time and get it done.

Couldn't get past the smell!

I tried to be positive, and overlooked some of the cosmetic issues like worn carpet, poorly maintained grounds, etc., because the price was fairly decent. Our room had been updated and was nice. I liked the higher end toiletries and the size of our room, but I couldn't get past the smell on the third floor! We were there for several days and I really thought maybe some rude person had simply "crop dusted" the hallway right before we arrived, but that smell was there every day! It was disgusting. Even my husband, who isn't nearly as sensitive as I am, found it repulsive. There is some type of sewer issue or something going on there.
