Value for € Establishment
laucnjon 06/05/2017 17:20The location is unbeatable, a few metres from Plaza Mayor & right next to Mercado de San Miguel ! The room's alright - basic but comfortable. No windows for my room & the shared bathrooms are very limpio ! The only problem would be that the rooms are not sound proof. If there's a couple of chatty chicas staying next door, be prepared to be entertained by their non-stop chatter & laughs 😓
Amazing location!!
Ali Con 11/04/2017 11:19Me and two friends rented a triple room for 2 nights. We loved the location (right beside Plaza Mayor and behind the Market San Miguel). The closest metro stop is Plaza de la Sol, making it easy to move around the city and get to the airport if needed. It was extremely clean, the bathrooms were maintained as well. They had amazing pillows and soft sheets. Very cozy little hostel, exactly what you need for a couple nights stay!
Not bad
Luqman Faez Bon 08/11/2016 13:43It was a short stay, checked-in late midday and went out after that for sightseeing until dinner time. To sum it all, I find the hostel provides nice single room and a cozy bed. The staff was friendly and though he looked tired, he smiled anyways. If you are looking for something budget and doesn't mind the noises, then this is the place for you.
Excellent location

Premium location - ascetic but tolerable for one night
hituluon 30/04/2016 00:15I was not sure what rating to give this place, but considering extremely nice personnel (especially Diana), I decided to go with the middle.
My main difficulty comes from the fact that I hasn't stayed in a shared bathroom accommodation since my early student years. However, as I had to book last minute a central location, my only choices were either super expensive 4* starting at 200 per night, or hostels . This was a doable alternative and with little trepidation I went for it, figuring that for one night I can use public bathroom and skip the shower if I have to till my next stop day later.
So, public bathroom - that much was expected. What I did not expect was that there was no window. The whole room was about a size of a walk-in closet, so don't think of renting it if you are claustrophobic. It barely fit a bed, a garbage can in the corner, pull-out table on the other side and a tiny bed stand. It looked clean though and the bed was comfortable enough. There was even TV on the wall, but no English speaking channels - so, useless unless you speak Spanish. I understand with that type of accommodation the owner(s) want to keep the cost down, and with the size of the room there is not much space for a chair or any other furniture item. But how about a couple of hooks on the wall, to hang a coat or a towel and a small shelf above the bed to put a sweater on? These are not expensive at all, but make the life so much easier,,, Really, worth to invest few euros in that! When I came to the room at night, it felt stuffy and I was worried that I would not be able to sleep. I found a small fan in the corner, and after turning it on, it made it tolerable. It was a bit dusty though. Cleaning it would be my 2nd suggestion to the hostal as some people are allergic to dust.
As of the bathrooms, they looked clean and I have not ever seen them all occupied at once (there are only about 6 rooms). As a matter of fact I have not seen (or hear)other guests while all rooms seem to be occupied but I only stayed one night and was hardly inside. The bathrooms looked clean and I took a shower in the big one on the right side. Unfortunately, it had a problem with the water coming down slowly, but that was the only one I tried. Perhaps the two on the other end work better - I had no time to check, Internet was another disappointment - it didn't work. The front desk lady was surprised but I doubt that I was the only person to complain. I tried both my cell and tablet - the same result, it would not show up at all even after she restarted the router. My table is few years old and the phone is brand new, so it is not about compatibility. This was a huge problem to me as I relied on having connection during my stay.
Now, on the positive side: you cannot beat the location right next to St Miguel market and Plaza Major. The front desk lady Diana was very helpful and gave me many good advices and let to use her phone in lieu of not working internet.
Hostal is on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator. Also, keep in mind that the sign next door pointing to the right is confusing. you have to go inside the door under the sign, not to the next one which is a restaurant. I made this mistake by walking with the suitcase up and down the stairs following the sign - better to remove or change it.
All-in-all, if I come back to Madrid and there are better options within 100-150 range, I would go for them, but if I am stuck again - I wouldn't mind terribly staying in La Casa for another night (but hopefully they get their internet fixed and put some hooks on the wall by then)
