Great location
Witold Son 22/05/2016 12:55The hotel is located 5 minutes from the center. It is possible to park car, so is a good place for evening walks and drinks. The interior is average, but acetable. The rooms are OK, but poorly equipped.
All Wrong
Sam Son 20/08/2015 14:17I could list the dozen or so things wrong with this place including holes in the wall, horrible smelling sediment in the toilet, no toilet paper, or the ignorant obnoxious attitude of the front desk worker, all for 35/40 euros a night. It does however seem to come down to the fact that they just don't care or have any pride in the hostal at all. Avoid at all costs!
They don't seem to care
Travel12340987on 06/08/2014 00:41The biggest issue I have is the apparent lack of pride/ownership. It would seem that there is only one key to the front door, and the man who works here took it with him when he left...so the front door has been consistently locked. It took quite a long time of ringing the bell, and finally shouting, to get buzzed in. The lady who came out of her room and stood by the desk, looking exasperated, repeatedly insisted that it wasn't her fault that guests were being left outside. (I didn't mention the telephone ringing every time someone rang the bell...other reviews have mentioned the paper thin walls...note this ringing was at all hours.) Look, I understand that there might be only one key to that door (probably something that needs changing), but if you are running a business, or if YOU are left in charge, it is YOUR responsibility. Figure out a way around the problem...maybe sit down by the front door with a book until the guy with the key gets back. Maybe just answer the doorbell that is being rung ad nauseam to the chagrin of the guests fortunate enough to have made it inside. What really got me was that she wouldn't even apologize. Didn't seen to even care at all. As far as she was concerned, it was neither her fault nor her responsibility.
To follow up on lack of pride/ownership, I noticed many worn-down and/or broken fixtures. Light fixtures were missing bulbs, the TV didn't work, the sink wobbled, the faceplate on the bathroom wall outlet was very loose, the toilet paper roller was broken and there was a maybe 30-40% left roll there with no replacements, the one bath towel was sloppily folded, the wall tiles where the toilet's pipes went into the wall were broken and were just a hole, part of the shower fixture was broken, and a piece popped off the radiator when I brushed by it.
Now, I realize that it's a low-price place and you get what you pay for. I don't have a problem with not staying at the Waldorf...if I did, I wouldn't have booked this place. I'm not too bothered by stuff like that most of the time. There are way bigger fish to fry than a few imperfections in a hostel, or hotel for that matter. But there just seemed to be an apathetic attitude on the part of the staff. It didn't seem like they even tried to maintain it, other than making the beds before guests arrive and making sure the room is clean enough. It smelled somewhat pleasant in the lobby and reception room. Oh, and they mopped the floors in the halls and stairs to the point where a nice old man said he felt like he was almost ice skating.
Other things:
They don't do room service/bed making/room cleaning every day you're there. Not a huge deal, you get what you pay for. Just don't be a mess and you'll be fine.
The wifi is better on the sidewalk outside than in the rooms. I'd say "you get what you pay for," but this one is actually puzzling. I just don't get how that works, or see how it has to do with the price. The only possible explanation I can think of is that the router is near the window on the first floor by the desk, or that it's in the room in which the hostel's operators/owners seem to live or stay.
Their cardswiping machine was broken, so they insisted I go out to an ATM and withdraw cash to pay all upfront. Not that cash is bad, but it just seemed a little funky. They didn't overcharge me, but still.
The only good thing is the location. It's not right at the city center, but it's a short walk away. The other good thing about the location is that it's not far from the train station or the bus station.
I feel cheated
TioMac_11on 09/06/2014 12:04Pros: This is a cheap hostel with nice location.
Cons: Don't expect to find the nice rooms showed in their website (in fact, they are quite crappy). It's noisy and not very clean. The guy at the reception is unfriendly and he doesn't help very much.
Finally, it is not possible to book a two-bed room in their website. You can write a comment requesting it but they ignore comments.
acceptable for one cheap night
Air_Palmaon 04/03/2014 23:35I went there on 03MAR2014, room 20x. You have to climb to reach reception (no lift), everything was very old but fairly clean. Got to climb again to see the room. Hotel is very old and before a certain time (11 PM) you get to hear everything (read: everything) in the surrounding rooms. Bed was clean, no chair, poor internet, no towels (I got some after asking). I paid 20 euros on booking.com and that's what it's worth, and that's what I got. Central location, easy to park, express check-out (there was a sign: "leave you key here" with +10's keys next to it). If you only want a safe place with a bed and a shower for minimum price, that's the place. If you have more time to spend in looking for a better place, you can only find better places.
