I just took a quick spur of the moment trip to Guatemala. I ended up at Hotel San Nicolas for three nights. I booked through the internet at the airport, but when I arrived my reservation had not gone through. The desk person, Anna, gave me the room at the advertised rate and helped with all the details of taking a volcano tour, where to eat, and booked several shuttle rides for me.

This was the same with the other staff members. They were a huge help to someone with very limited Spanish.

The room was what I expected. Clean and comfortable. The outside temps were very comfortable, which is good as there is not climate control in the room. This is common at hotels here, but something you should know if you are American and expect every room to have AC/heat. The only other thing I would mention was the room was advertised with a hot tub. Which is not exactly wrong, but not what most Americans would expect. It is a regular bathtub with jets not a big Jacuzzi for several people.

The water was hot and always available. It was not one of the electric (suicide showers) that are also common in the area. The small central garden in the center of the property is beautiful and peaceful, I could see someone spend time there if their main goal was to relax and de-stress

The hotel is a bit of a walk to the main square. This let's it be quiet, but if walking is an issue for you, you may want to stay closer. I did feel very safe walking the streets even late at night.

I would stay here again, as I thought the value for the price was good.

Lovely hotel; however, the bed was too hard.

Helpful and friendly staff. They were very accommodating. Lovely courtyard and room.
Delicious breakfast served elegantly in a beautiful dining room. The hotel was a little out of the way and streets nearby were very dark at night. My other complaint was that the bed was too hard and I woke each day with a backache. I loved the Jacuzzi in my room.

A three day visit turned into five!

A wonderful little hotel, quiet, clean, lovely, with a happy helpful staff. Full breakfast. I loved this place, just four rooms on a garden courtyard. It was late January and the nights were cold so it was chilly in my room but I was prepared with proper clothing. Locals burn candles in their rooms in January. Only complain was the coffee, weak weak. I never complained so it's my fault, I just went to one of the many good coffee shops for my coffee fix. Guatemalan coffee really is good.

Thanks Maria, for ironing my shirt! Love you.

Quaint and Quiet with Great Staff

Went to Antigua for the first time with a friend and stayed here because of some of the tripadvisor reviews, they were spot on. You are always greeted with a smile from the staff no matter how late and/or early you see them. We had to leave the hotel very early in the am many, many times during our trip for activities like seeing Tikal (left at 4am) and the staff was always there to make sure we made our shuttles. There are only 4 rooms in the hotel and the courtyard is a place where you can zone out for hours on end. They also provide you with complementary breakfast and coffee although we wanted to get out and try as much different foods in Antigua as possible and thus didn't take advantage of the breakfast as much as others who may stay here.

The rooms are big enough and clean. We were hardly in the room other than to catch a quick rest or sleep so it was perfect. They have very strong wifi in the rooms along with tvs. It is located a few (5/6) blocks from the Central Park of Antigua which was perfect. I could see how it could be a lot noisier if you wanted to stay closer to the Central Park. It was far enough away from the action to be quiet but not too far away that it seemed like it was inconvenient.

I would definitely suggest people stay here if you are traveling to Antigua! Safe travels.

My fiancé are marrying in Antigua next spring and were in town for the wedding preparation. We are on a budget so decided to give this place a try. At first we said even if this place isn't good it doesn't matter Bc we will not be spending too much time in the hotel. Well we were so so wrong! We ended up staying longer than expected be we were so in love w this place of heaven. The garden is everything. This place is so so relaxing and simply beautiful we couldn't get enough. Thanks to Iris for making our stay so pleasant. She is the sweetest lady! We are so happy w this place that we are highly recommended to it our guests. Beautiful, comfortable, charming and inexpensive.

Thank you Hostal San Nicolas! See you in march!
