What People are saying

An oasis

This is a perfect stopover choice on a long north-south drive. Close to the motorway but providing charming accommodation, great service and good food in lovely, tranquil surroundings. The owners were always available but happy to let guests enjoy some quiet time between drives.

Good

Have stayed before. Lovely rooms. Large and comfortable. Good service.
No bar is a shame as we like a drink before dinner and not at the dinning table. Too early in the season to sit outside. Menu very limited. Could do with another starter and main course as a choice. Service very good. Good parking and secure.

A haven of peace

This is how hotels should be - friendly service, comfortable accommodation, charming setting, quiet, good food, well appointed. It's a small family hotel run by an attentive couple who do everything to make you welcome. It's a surprising find at your first visit - turning off a busy uninteresting road into a haven of greenery and quiet. We've stayed there twice and won't hesitate to stay again - an excellent place for an overnight stay to break up a long journey. The only negative is that the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays.

Fab In Any Language

I can't say enough good things about this little gem near Macon. Only a few minutes from the autoroute (just off the Macon bypass) and tucked away in a quiet (and VERY unprepossessing) village - the Hostellerie Sarrasine is the sort of place you can only find in France.

We stayed as a family of three. Our room had an abundance of maiden aunt-type furnishings - and (to my delight!) the beds had proper blankets and coverlets/quilts. The bathroom (complete with bidet) was completely separate from a small room with a commode. Both could be closed off from the spacious and wooden-beamed bedchamber.

We had dinner and breakfast. Both were delicious - and local specialties were served at both meals. A vegetarian dinner menu is available, as were several organic, "green", etc...choices. In our party, both adults opted for the famous Bresse chicken - it was lovely. Our young son was treated very kindly by the patronne, and he gobbled down his Burgundy snails. Breakfast was really a rather remarkable spread - and we were also offered a fresh omelet.

We arrived on a cold autumn night, and to have both dinner and breakfast in front of roaring, well-tended fires was a special treat. On arrival, we noticed the (small, outdoor) pool - and while it was immaculate, the cold weather put paid to my swimming plans.

The hotel is owned by a charming (and tri-lingual) Franco-German family. We mostly conversed in French, but other guests were served in perfect German (the patronne is German) and flawless English.

If you are looking for minimalism, white duvets, self check-in, etc...look elsewhere. This is a taste of the old France - if that floats your boat, you won't be disappointed. Having said that, the wifi signal was plenty strong. ;)

Very nice find near the motorway

An oasis of rural charm just off a busy road. Very attractive building well furnished with comfortable upholstered chairs. Very friendly and attentive hosts, the wife speaks perfect English Attractive gardens with swimming pool, domestic animals and doves, very nice for our dog. Evening meal was delicious with local specialties including Bresse chicken. There are set meal prices. Breakfast was also very good with many choices. We chose a de luxe room which was very large, comfortable bed with all facilities including comfortable armchairs. Olive green ceramic bathroom and separate olive green toilet.Typical French wallpapers. The restaurant was most attractive. Charge for our dog was 16 euros. It was an expensive stay at 321.50 euros for the night. But the owners told me they do have DB&B offers which are better value if you contact them directly. We will go again, so much better than the usual motel type establishments.
