What People are saying

Featherbeds and pillows no good for me.

OdosMamaon 13/11/2016 17:53

When we checked in, I thought I was going to love this place. Nice, comfortable rooms, pretty bathroom (no bathtub, sadly), nice view and beautifully quiet. My daughter, cousin and I had a lovely dinner (our plan included breakfasts and dinners at a heck of a price), and konked out to sleep. I slept like an old dog in front of a warm fire.

And I woke up looking like a stuffed chimp. Oh boy. Allergies from the bedding caused me no end of trouble. After spending several hours taking medicine in an attempt to breathe, I went to the front desk and rasped (they speak English, but I speak German, so I always speak German to be polite), to see if they had hypoallergenic bedding. I barely had my request out when two maids went to change the bedding. I went to bed that night, confident that I would have no further problems.

Bummer. Whatever remained of the allergens in my bed, or the feathers in my daughter's bed (my cousin had her own room), caused me the same problems as the day before, but worse. I went to have a lovely breakfast in the restaurant, and waited for myfamily to wake up, so we could make a decision. Sadly, we had to check out of the hotel, so I wouldn't end up checking into a hospital. (The hospital in the area is new, and I hear it's very nice.) We received no refund for the days we didn't stay in the hotel (2 days). I cannot blame the hotel, because we purchased a package with room, breakfast and dinner.

On one hand, I got a great look at the hotel before we left. As I mentioned, the rooms are clean, roomy and quiet. I was surprised to note that the double rooms had no place to store our suitcase, although the single rooms had one. A bathtub would have been nice. Not being booted from a table because "those are reserved as dinner tables, go find a breakfast table", only to see a German party escorted to the same table a few minutes later would have left a much better taste of this place in my mouth.

The food was average. Of the three hotels we stayed at, this food was the least tasty. On the other hand, it was still pretty good. The breakfasts we delicious, as long as you like German breakfasts, which I do. (rolls, lunchmeats, delicous jam, yogurt, those types of things) There was a gorgeous old car in the lobby, along with some not very nice old mannequins, although I have no idea why they were there. The hotel has a lovely view of the "schloss," which is nothing like what Americans think of a castle, but lovely nonetheless.

All in all, a very nice place to stay if you have no allergies.

Central location for visiting the area

Ian Jon 02/09/2016 19:29

This is a entral location for visiting Naumburg, Jena, Weimar, and Erfurt, which can be reched by car or train. A little bit difficult to find because of road works and pedestrian area. It is a modern conference hotel and has all services we wanted. Room is large and clean. Heard a little bit of noise from the corridor.
Room was facing the road, which although little traffic was a bit noisy due to cobbles.
Breakfast buffet had a good choice of breads, old cuts, cheeses, bread and jams. Also some hot choices, although sometimes these were a littl bit tired.

Family Reunion in Apolda

JaneSattleron 11/05/2016 08:34

This was a good choice for our stay of 6 people with 10 more joining for a small party in the dining room for coffee and pastries. Hotel accommodations are above average although the rooms were a little basic and other than upgraded bathrooms they were not terribly attractive but more than functional. Older and drab floor coverings is about the worst I can say. On the plus side- extra friendly staff all over! There is a bright and cherry dining area and lobby plus the terrace was fun and a nice gathering place. We also utilized the 7€ per night parking garage because of a lot of luggage and having a disabled person in our party. There was free parking as well behind the hotel if you could walk further. On the con side which is just little suggestions- elevators are slow, breakfast is unimaginative and basic (although perfectly adequate) and there is no ice anywhere that we could discern but that seems to be more consistent with all hotels in Germany. So you just have to live with it. All in all this was a wonderful spot for us in the town where my 80 yr old husband and his cousins were born and raised.

Happy in Apolda

The Hotel am Schloss in Apolda is a fine hotel, conveniently located in a the center of a very nice town. Between Jena, Weimar and Naumburg, it is centrally situated amongst many tourist attractions. Considerate personnel, good food, convenient and free parking, etc. If they could somehow improve their wireless Internet connection, that would instantly make it a "great hotel"!

Stay if you have business in Apolda and no time to travel

Krzysztof Ron 31/12/2013 10:15

First of all if you expect castle in Apolda you would be dissapointed, there is no castle which would be even a bit similar to typical middle age castles you might have in mind. The
hotel is not as easy to find as you would expect in small city, because it is located in pedestrian area. Having a big car brought us trouble in the hotel parking - it was almost full and slots for one car are planned for Minis or Fiats rather than bigger vehicles, 5 minutes of forth an back manouvers by parking guaranteed.
Check in was quick, elevators however are dedicated for 2, max. 3 people .... The room we got was small, rather poorly equipped, bathroom was standard. One thing was really damaging: it was really cold! Nobody switched on the heating in advance so we decided to go to eat something in the hotel restaurant, it was after 9.00 pm and waiter told us that kitchen is almost closing. We asked for some tosts and salad. Food was not tasty ...
Breakfest was not bad, typical for German small hotels.
In summary - we suggest to stay there only if somebody has a business or visits friends or family and has no time to travel from Weimar offering much better hotel opportunities.
