Feel at Home at this Lovely Boutique Hotel
Niblik2010on 25/06/2017 17:48Set in a walkable business and residential area, I booked this after the Marriott and Ritz at Potsdamer were sold out. This is the 2nd Autograph collection hotel I've stayed at, and I will be back! Steinplatz lives up to their signature style of impeccable and approachable service. It has an art deco 1920's theme through out, with clever room design for storage and practical functionality. Storage includes a valet-style closet with drawers for shoes, ties, suitcase, etc. Pressed white linens were perfection, and temperature control flexible. The center courtyard and glass-enclosed 'winter' patio are unique elements that add a sense of space and outdoors.
Helpful service included recommendations and booking assistance for restaurants, hair salons, etc. The bartenders are well informed and inventive with herbs and creative mixtures for every palate. As for food/restaurant, the avocado and egg breakfast was a perfect start to the day.
The spa was booked the day I was there, so recommend booking ahead if interested.
Wonderful Courtyard Hotel
keith21on 23/06/2017 18:12My wife and I stayed here a week whilst visiting Berlin...beautiful,impressive smart hotel with a modern rooftop spa in a very nice part of Western Berlin. Good links to the underground and overground only a short walk away. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean. The staff are very friendly and if you are interested in history especially the Second World War or the Cold War speak to Sebastian at the front desk....Sebastian has a great deal of local knowledge and will take you off the beaten track. There is a lot to see and visit if so wish. The Hotel has a great story and the area of Charlottenburg has a lot of history with many of the original buildings still standing.... not known to many however is that some of the older buildings surrounding the hotel were used by the National Socialist elite as bordellos and to house their mistresses.
Breakfast is served in the courtyard area and there is a very good choice....and if there isn't anything to your liking don't be shy and have a word with the chef...he/she will make you something more to your taste.
Now if I was to have a criticism...the bar can be/is really expensive..it is very smart and the cocktails provided are excellent however if you are returning from a night out (there a some superb local restaurants within a very short walk) just have the one before bed otherwise the bill may give you an unwanted surprise!!...the bar is also open to the public and can get very busy and this leads me to an area where we believe the hotel can improve. So here goes a 'constructive criticism'... On arrival (which was late due to flight times from the UK) we were shown to the bar where we were told we could get a beer and a glass of wine..we were then seated by the reception staff at the actual bar itself whilst our cases was taken to our room....very nice and they were extremely courteous.. a great first impression...we then waited at the bar for 20 minutes before one of the bar staff took pity (knowing that we were guests) and served us a beer and having done so she duly received a 'telling off' from the bar manager for serving out of turn. A telling off that was not merited as she was waiting to serve a cocktail that was being prepared for her and had a moment to spare. In our experience when we have stayed at other hotels of a similar standard in other cities in Europe (and this is one of the more expensive hotels in Berlin) you were spoken to by the bar staff and welcomed to the hotel, you were then served immediately. As I said a constructive criticism and something for the hotel to think about if it aspires and I know that it does to be one of the best....as I said a constructive criticism as that first impression can so often set the tone for the rest of the visit...fortunately for us it didn't give a bad impression and we really enjoyed staying at this hotel.
Great hotel in a lovely neighborhood
Wendy Ron 23/06/2017 04:31We were looking to stay in Berlin but wanted to stay in an area with a variety of shopping, restaurants, and access to sites without having to stay in Central Berlin, which is pretty stark. This hotel was perfect. It is close to the Zoologischer Garten rail station that includes access to the U-Bahn and buses. The neighborhood is easy to walk through with a lot of restaurants and shopping areas.
Excellent facility and nice room but a few frustrations
beentherejohnon 21/06/2017 22:41Very nice quiet area of Berlin and fairly easy to get to local subway station. The staff was excellent and very helpful with local information and restaurant recommendations. Breakfast area is very nice with seating in the courtyard and food choices at breakfast quite good. Good sized room with high ceilings and wonderful shower. Our only frustrations with the room were storage space while traveling and only on place to put luggage (we asked for a second luggage rack which they never provided), With high ceilings the window curtains were quite long and with the design of the room the curtains could not be completely closed so too much light coming in at night. Worst complaint was that the thermostat did not show a temperature and just allowed turning toward cold or warm and the room was too warm regardless of how much we turned it down.
Very very good hotel
sieuroon 19/06/2017 13:43First of all, excellent staff.
This hotel is great looking, very classy with lovely big rooms. Luckily the weather was super hot when I visited so brekafast outside in the courtyard was very pleasant. I wish I could have stayed longer than a couple of days.
Great location, walking distance from the main shopping areas and restaurants. Will stay here again.
