Great Place to stay In Heidelberg

RalfMMon 04/01/2017 18:13

Hotel Auerstein is a great place to stay when visitign Heidelberg for business or pleasure. Hotel is non-smoking, quiet and very well maintained. Rooms are simple, nice and very clean. Very good breakfast! Very friendly staff. Hotel is right at tram lines to central Heidelberg, main train station, Mannheim, etc. Grocery stores and other shopping are within walking distance.

Superb food and hospitality

We stayed here for a week, experiencing Heidelberg and the 2016 German Grand Prix. The food is superb and our hosts, Mauro and Ruth, couldn't have been more accommodating.
Be aware that the hotel is closed Wednesday and Sunday but there are many good places to eat in a very close proximity. If you want to go into Heidelberg the restaurant Da Mario on Bismark Place is lovely, or closer to home, the Pizzaria, 50 yards from the hotel is amazing for home cooked, real Italian pizza run by an Italian family. We would go to the Pizzaria again no problem. Try it, doesn't look like much but the food is yummy!
All in all would recommend the Auerstein, the food, the room and the hosts.
If you're on the third floor tho, there are 65 steps up there (not that I've counted!)

Friendly owner, nice food

We took the family room on top of the floor.
It was nicely decorated and very clean.
Though the room was not spacious, it's adequate for four.
The only problem was there's no elevator.
If you are traveling with luggages, you better choose rooms on lower floors.
Good thing is parking. It's easy to park in the alley and take the tram to the city center.
The lady owner is very friendly and willing to provide you with whatever information you need.
Breakfast is good, too.
Too bad we did not have the time to have dinner in the restaurant.

Good hotel, friendly staff

Not in a city center, but proved to be a very good alternative. Food was good, staff friendly and courteous. We managed to extend our stay without hassle. Double room was spacious enough however in need of air conditioning.

Absolutely no frills, just a non smoking room with bed and tiny bathroom

We picked this hotel because it was no smoking. If you just want a bed and no frills, this is an ok place. Average clean. No air conditioning, no blackout drapes, no elevator, no parking, no carpet, no reading lamps, no clock, no radio, no wash cloths, no bed box spring, no place to set suitcases except the floor. Smallest bathroom and smallest bathroom sink I have ever seen. There is a step up into the bathroom so be careful. Also try to get top floor since the wooden floor and the bed are extremely squeaky. Just remember there is no elevator. The only lights were two old lights from the 50's or 60's hanging down in the middle of the room. There were two small lights by the bed but they weren't big enough to read by. We thought since it's an older hotel that it would have old German style decor. The room had all white walls with no pictures or decor of any kind except a picture of a 5 foot statue of a naked man? Why? Looked like he should have been in a Greek or Italian hotel. Was bothersome to have this picture be the last thing I saw before going to sleep and first thing I saw when I woke up. The only other decor were some throw pillows and a fake fur throw on a wicker chair. Not sure how they bleach these items. Gross. Curtains were very thin so forget about keeping the sun out. Glad we visited in April because without air conditioning and leaving windows closed because of the street noise, it would get hot in there. Actually it was a little warm but they put the blanket inside of the sheets (like sleeping bag on top of you) so I had to take the blanket out of the sheet so I could just use the sheet to sleep. To check in, you must go to the second floor which they call the first floor. When we went to check out, no one was there so we had to go downstairs to the restaurant and then go back up to check out. Door for hotel is on the side street and sign not visible from the street so we first went to the restaurant door and had to go past the kitchen to find the stairs to go up to the office to check in. We walked 2 1/2 miles to Heidelberg Castle because we had so much trouble finding a parking spot ( 2 blocks from hotel) that we just left the car there until we checked out the next day. Hotel restaurant not worth the price.
