What People are saying

Sensational value, and what an experience....

A lovely faded yesteryear hotel, with really sweet public areas and well sized rooms. We had a room looking our over the river. Breakfast was good...and the value for this style of accomodation, and the location, was truly phenomenal (we paid about 45-50 EUR a night including breakfast). Very convenient location for exploring the old town.

Ninety years on and still going strong

Hotel Astoria is an Art Nouveau gem ; some people would not like the fact that some of its features reflect the fact that it was opened in 1926 and bits of it haven't changed much since then ! The public rooms are museum pieces and the lift is something to behold . I have to admit that the plumbing has a certain antiquity about it too. However we enjoyed a comfortable two nights there ; very quiet , and a spacious room . The reception staff were pleasant but the dining room staff barely interacted with the guests . Breakfast was all right but nothing special . The hotel's location is excellent ; not very far from the station , opposite the river and very close to the main town square and restaurants and cafes .

Charming eccentricities

Aside from the installation of very efficient conditioning in the rooms and new windows, this 1920's era hotel has seen very few upgrades. Personally, I'm happy with this kind of experience and I seek it out. But I know that very many people would be disappointed.

Other reviewers have complained about the noise. I was fortunate to be assigned a room at the rear and I had no such problems.

The price was fair, the staff were patient and efficient. I found the breakfast buffet to be perfectly acceptable. As others have noted, you cannot beat the location for convenience.

The city is worth more than one visit and I will be returning. when I do, I expect to stay at the hotel Astoria once again.

The Grand 'Budapest' hotel

I was extremely excited as I saw the looks of the facade and location. I wanted to cry from happyness as I entered the lobby, elevator, misterious corridors and breakfast room! It is just amazing! It is for people who adore exceptional interiors, historical soul and fantastiq location. Ofcourse, it is not fully up to date, but this charm of history makes it super unique. In my opinion, renovation would make it worse. Hurry up to experience it! The room was equally nice, atleast in my room all the furniture was antique and beautiful. In my parents room it was a little bit more shabby. Mattress need replacement!

Historic hotel at a great price.

This is really a heritage property retaining the old world charm. It is old so I can see why some people don't like it, but I thought the price was a bargain. The included breakfast was good too with both hot and cold options. The concession to modernity is rooms have individual air conditioning which was a godsend in the heatwave while we were there. The location is great, 3 mins walk from station and next to a main square. The wifi was hit and miss but no other complaints from me.
