Comfortable stay

This hotel is very conveniently located 100 - 200 metres from the train station, with regular trains to Bern or Zurich. The room was very clean and comfortable, the restaurant offers a good variety of meals, all seemed of good quality. Breakfast was more than adequate. Helpful front desk staff. All round good Swiss experience!

The hotel has helpful desk staff and a large lift. The wifi was strong and consistent. Hot time of year, no AC, no screens on windows, no fan. Monday morning noise started up early, with construction and some church bells. The breakfast was really standard, with pre-packaged jelly and only hard-boiled eggs. The muesli was sweet, there were far fewer bread choices, and the juices were from a dispenser instead of a carafe. The one guy working the breakfast was very industrious – which was fortunate because he had to do it ALL.
Parking in their garage is 12 SF, or 3 SF/2 hours in city lots or spaces. But you have to move your car after the maximum in city spaces/lots. You can’t just go back and add more money (supposedly). Of course, VERY close to the train station if you are using train transport.

Three of us dined at the HB restaurant. My husband and I shared a B5 salad, the house speciality, and we were not disappointed. It was delicious. The chili sauce and chicken added a little kick to the salad. I had ordered a small salad and was told that it was still quite large, so we shared it and we still had large portions. I chose the Rosti meal and it was perfect! My husband chose the chicken dish and our friend chose the hot vegetarian sandwich. None of us were disappointed with our meal.

SERVICE:
Before arrival, I inquired about the transportation service to the hotel from the airport in Berne/Belp, and the concierge service told me there was a direct train from the airport. This information was plainly wrong, because the airport Berne/Belp does not have a train station in the building, and it is required to take a bus (10 mins. ride).
Only from Belp station there was a direct connection to Burgdorf via train.
When I pointed out that the public transportation website of Switzerland indicated that you had to change from bus to train, I was inquiring again where the direct connection the hotel staff mentioned was. I was both times, only redirected to the website I already had mentioned in my email inquiry.
For foreign visitors, it would be very nice if the staff would be more accomodating and precise in the information.

BREAKFAST:
Had everything you needed, as well as a nice choice of juice and fruits, the bread and rolls were also nice. Jam was served in single-serves plastics, but plenty of flavours to choose from. The coffee was hot and strong.

LOCATION:
Very near Burgdorf station and the mall, including Migros for grocery shopping.

ROOM:
The interior was not the newest, the door of the bathroom kind of "unraveled" at the edges, but other than that, everything seemed clean.

Also, for business trips, I recommend not to work in the rooms - the chairs are wooden and not really matching the desk hight - for long work hours not suitable.

The minibar-fridge is letting out a lot of hot air, which ehated up the room a bit.

NOTE:
Even though I left a few CHF for room cleaning service, my water glass was not properly washed or I did not get a new one. There were stains overall the glass fromfoam? Residue of something? I am not sure what, but it was disgusting. The glass was not replaced even though I planted it sidewards on the shelf - which measn the room cleaning service did not bother to look onto the glasses?

Also, the first time cleaning, there was plastic left on the bathroom floor, also the room wasn't vacuumed apparently, and if so, not very good, because I discovered other plastic on the floor. - The reason I asked for slippers.

STAFF:
Very friendly overall.

RECOMMENDATION:
Would stay at Hotel Berchthold again, just because the prices are very good and the location is nearby everything you need.

Burgdorf is a beautiful little town. It is convenient to go to Bern if you decide to. The hotel is very clean. People are nice. They are very accommodating. Service is excellent.

The train station is very near. It has supermarkets, convenience store, restaurants all within 100 meters.
