Great recluse, not as good as a conference hotel

+ Top location: Directly on the Elbe river, historic complex
+ If you want a classic place to be isolated from daily hectic, this is the place (both hotel and town)
+ Aiming at 5***** atmosphere, however staff and service unfortunately are not at top-notch level (very friendly, but training level has some room for improvement, e.g. front desk has to ask supervisor for basically all requests)
- Not fitted for seminars (e.g. impossible to shorten lunch breaks down to less than an hour, no room cards for the seminar rooms --> have to walk to reception to open/secure doors every time etc.).
- Impossibly slow and unstable internet connection, throughout the hotel (rooms and seminar area). This may be ok for tourists, but for a business location, it is simply not acceptable.

Overall no serious complaints (aside from the internet connection), but for the price and the desired level, one would expect an inch better performance.

Beautiful Hotel in a heavenly part of Germany

This hotel is in the most glorious area of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Wonderful area for hiking and beautiful views which range from the peaceful, pastoral views along the River Elbe to the dramatic Sandstone Mountains in the National Park. A must see is the Bastei Bridge where high above the Elbe River there are spectacular views of the countryside and the Sandstone formations. The Bridge is an amazing structure and no surprise that it has been a tourist attraction for over a century. Its one of natures wonders. Bad Schandau is a picture perfect village.
The hotel has been completely refurbished after a flood some years ago. So everything is new and fresh. Stayed for three nights and had a great room overlooking the street, comfortable bed and good shower. Everything is pristine. Breakfast is fantastic, worth getting up early to relax and enjoy it. While we had drinks we didn't eat in the hotel.
Beautiful hotel in the most glorious environment, a heavenly escape. I would love to visit again.

Terrible service for high price

No wifi in the room, the reception didn't do anything the solve the issue. No double matrace was provided in the superior room,although I even requested it. You can find better offers for this price, no way I am going back to this place.

Will be great when reopening snags ironed out

We had a lovely room overlooking the Elbe. The air conditioning did not seem to work so we had to sleep with the windows open, and the trains on the far riverbank can be deafening but we slept OK. The spa in the hotel was great for refreshing us after a hard day pounding the Malerweg. The German predilection for nudity in spas was difficult for us Brits but we managed to preserve our dignity. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was understaffed in the evening and the waitress pretended not to understand the word "Leitungswasser" (tap water). Hence no tip and we did not eat in the hotel again. Luckily, the fabulous Vivalidi ice cream emporium opposite has a nice restaurant so we just eat there. The wi fi connection was not very good at all, and those whose cannot maintain a psychological equilebrium without a reliable internet may be seriously traumatised. We were not looking to connect much so we were OK.
I understand the hotel has just reopened after the flooding so I will give some latitude in my assessment, but I would hope some of the deficiencies will be addressed in time. All in all we enjoyed staying here and it was a great base to explore the area. There is a bike hire shop attached and cheap we thought. Well worth cycling down into the Czech Republic on the cycle path provided. The hotel is right next to tourist info as well, another bonus.
We would go back to the hotel to stay though, if we return to the area, which we very much hope to do.

A Nixe New Hotel which lacks sufistication

It is an unusually well designed newly furbished hotel in this remote area of Saxony. But it lacks local touch and needs more attention to detail: the wifi system is slow and keeps kicking you out all the time. The beds are ok - nothing more, the pillows are too soft for my taste(but you may order a stiffer addition which helps a little). You have to be an extra for parking your car - which I feel exaggerated in this area and at the relatively high hotel rates.The staff is friendly, but mostly inexperienced- don't expect too much when asking for local hints and know how ( except if you find the one person who is specialized on local tourism which I found an hour before leaving). If you chose rooms facing the river (which I recommend for its beautiful view) you have to keep the windows shut during the night. There is a constant noisy train traffic going through the valley. . But you will be compensated by the area: a real treat for whoever enjoys nature and likes hiking - it is magnificent!.The hotel by the way has a great breakfast buffet and an acceptably well equipped. gym. The gardens are well manicured and are inviting to relax.
