Excellent location for the Castle and the boat trips
Christine Mon 31/05/2017 21:59We arrived by car and was directed to the rear car park which was easier said than done. You have to drive round the block and go through 2 no entry signs then 'voila' car park. We had room 24 which was excellent with a partial view of the castle. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Room service is good with toiletries and new towels every day. There's a safety deposit box in the room at no extra charge. It's a bit noisy at night but this is to be expected in view of the hotel location. Staff were friendly especially in the breakfast room in the annex building. Breakfast is adequate and what you would expect. The hotel bar is not worth the visit. No one was ever in there and it's not surprising considering the cost of a drink is 9euro. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the vicinity. The tram stops outside but we chose to walk everywhere which was easy enough.

Ronni Ron 30/05/2017 01:06This is the best location for doing the historic areas and walking or boating the canals.the surrounding area has everything within walking distance.the standard rooms in the original hotel are a snug fit. Queen bed is comfy but not much room around it and no a.c..a desk and chair. Breakfast include hot scrambled eggs.bavonsusage ham lot of cheeses And pastrie joiuce.cereal yogurt.all fresh we moved to room in the annexwhuch we bigger and had 2 comfy chairs and yeah! A.c..made our stay much better.
Well sited but hard work
Chris Bon 24/05/2017 12:52Stayed at the Gravensteen for a long weekend. It's easy to find- next to the castle- and nicely sited for local sightseeing, boat trips, bars and restaurants, but the stairs from the landings to the rooms would make Chris Bonnington quake. They would definitely NOT pass Building Regulations over here and made going to and from the room a mini nightmare (we were room 51). The floors were bare boards and a bit creaky which made a quiet night visit for a Jack Dash impossible. The bed was excellent, the size of a garden and the bathroom new and roomy. There is a coffee machine in the room. Breakfast is available at an extra charge but we thought it too expensive and went elsewhere. Easy to get to by tram if you want the performance of buying a ticket from the machine (3 Euros each), save the aggravation & get a cab (about 10 Euros)- it's also 30 minutes quicker. Clean & comfortable but not remarkable. No easy access for the disabled.
Good hotel center of Gent
Delene von 21/05/2017 10:14Nice hotel in the city of Gent. Service at reception could be better. No double key and needed the switch room after unpacking. But room, bath room and breakfast were good. Near the castle, restaurants and shops.
Perfect Position!
Karen Hon 18/05/2017 17:05What a wonderful old hotel situated across the road from the Castle! This hotel is in the old town and so not the easiest to get to but once there everything is within walking distance. Our room was rather dated in décor but the bathroom was new. The bed comfortable and the view of the Castle wonderful. Breakfast was lovely but we had to go out of the main building to the annex to get to it. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much.
