What People are saying

Very Beautiful and Romantic Hotel

Philippe Pon 07/05/2016 11:46

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel and had the 'Grand Roman' room who has a private big terras. The view from the terras is magnificent! The hotel is 3 minutes walking from the center of Barr where you have several different good restaurants (Jardin d'olives is great) and a touristic info point.

We took the breakfast twice in the hotel - very friendly service and you have enough choice - all products are fresh and they come and ask if you want them to prepare eggs or bacon. For drinks you can choose between tea, coffee an hot chocolate.

During the entire day there is also a Tea corner where you can sit and enjoy your Tea (free of charge) while enjoying a good book.

The owner is called Ralph and speaks good English - German and French; he is very friendly and helpful and can give advise about what to do in the neighborhood.

We will come back to this hotel!

A bit dodgy!

Pastorinoon 17/01/2016 09:30

Terrible service and unfriendly! After several correspondence via email and phone calls, we arrived there only to find that they had put us (family of 5) into rooms on different floors! ( steps only). When we asked why and how this happened, we got a very mild 'desole!'
That night my son got sick, so we were up and down flights of stairs and had to make trips to the car outside since our luggage could not fit into the tiny, overly priced, not well serviced rooms! The next day we were moved to rooms that were next door. The bathrooms are extremely tiny with nothing but a multipurpose soap dispenser. No extras. The rooms although as charming as granny's country house are claustrophobic and not suitable for anyone having luggage.
We chose not to have breakfast there, I was completely turned off by the place and that was enough. No regrets, as we had the best cappuccino, buns and cakes at Chez Oscar in town. Magical Christmas feeling.
The tea room is nothing other that what most hotels offer...hot water dispenser, tea bags and some cookies ( no date) in a tin! Got a horrific look when I asked for some milk!
Things got dodgy when we had to pay. We had done our calculations before hand given the information on our exchange of emails. He tried to charge us extra for beds. We had him re check the emails ( which he insisted we do through him and not via the hotel booking sites!). Got that resolved with very little of an apology and we were on our way with very sour feeling! Not good! Not worth the 3 stars on the brochure but more the 2 stars on the wall just outside the building!!!

A piece of paradise

A big group of friends, loudly speaking all sorts of languages and coming from different countries... Our recent long WE in "Le Manoir" was lovely and the nice weather during the annual wine festival in Mittelbergheim surprised us pleasantly. While the hotel's rooms are very cosy / romantic and the breakfast - exceptional, it can get pretty sticky on hot days due to the lack of air con. Nevertheless, our (altogether 9!) children loved playing in the huge garden and therefore all of us left the hotel with big smiles on our faces...

Lovely building, not quite matched by the rest.

The grandeur of the building is fabulous but as many have stated, quite notably those out of season such as us, the staff are not that engaged with the role or their customers.

We arrived, loved the look and feel of the room and booked an extra night - prematurely it turned out. We stayed in the apartment which is up lovely creaking staircases, has wonderful 270 degree views through porthole windows, two bedrooms and a full kitchen and fridge. Aside from the wonderful view, we were left feeling a little let down. Despite having full cooking facilities, the one pot, no pans and no oven dishes or mitts made the use of the equipment impossible. The staff were almost invisible, required reminding of requests (incl. we purchased a bottle of Cremant to be delivered to our room) and did not seem to mind their dog, which sadly scared our son, kept pestering us and nipping us all during our stay.

I suspect (hope?!?) this is out of season viewpoints only and others can experience the grandeur of such a magnificent building and location. Would be great to read a change to more positive reviews of this hotel.

p.s. don't forget your key - my wife spent 20mins ringing the bell to get back in on one occasion - at 7pm on a Friday evening.

Beautiful Manor House

Patricia Zon 16/01/2013 16:53

Beautiful manor House in Barr on the famous wine Route. The House is lovely, breakfast room, garden and common room very well kept and clean. Our room wasn't one the best though, maybe because we were just passing through, it was extremely small, no wardrobe in the room. Staff was rather cold and impersonal. Maybe it was the wrong time of the year but still a smile is always a smile. We did have a perfect dinner though at the Brochet Restaurant.
