Hotel is OK, pool good, the town is not worth staying in

Tina Hon 03/06/2017 07:52

The pool is really refreshing at this time of year. They do allow people not staying at the hotel to use it, but for the most part we had it to ourselves.
The rooms are dated but clean-ish & breakfast was nice and plentiful.
Staff are really accommodating and they can get you a beer if you want one.
Mahab's itself is OK, the beach is disgustingly dirty & the sites you pay for are not worth it for foreigners, (500 times more expensive than local people) you can take photos without entering & the free ones are better anyway. In my opinion there's really not any reason to stay overnight in this town, you could stop off and see the sights on the way to Pondy or Chennai. We were here out of season so it might be better if there were tourists around, but on the whole I found the whole town dirty & expensive.

Overpriced and facilities not working

Utpal Bon 04/03/2017 10:17

Rooms are big but wardrobes have fungus. Hot water never worked in the bathrooms. Kettle for tea/coffee making not provided although confirmed on phone before our arrival. Most staff only spoke Tamil. Internet was very slow.

Out of the sunshine into the gloom

anessexcoupleon 26/02/2017 19:13

Airport pickup efficient location central , pool good size, room, was large and airy, but it seems individual bookings are secondary to tour companies.
We had a six day stay and expected a few hours sunshine sitting on the balcony but we were allocated... under the swaying palm trees.. gloomy all day awoken very early by singing crows... after the birds had left their deposits on the four only sun beds .. the beds were never taken in overnight. We asked to move no luck.
Breakfast.. asked for a poached egg.. staff nearly had a heart attack... thought I was David Copperfield asking fore MORE.. After we noticed the breakfast items were left out overnight didn.t fancy crows furry things running over the plates dispensers as they liked .. transferred to the German Bakery each morning Excellent decision.
The hotel says cable television.. I am sad but I like an odd news and perhaps an odd arnie film... All I got was snow I asked for some help twice he said I.LL BE BACK obviously never watched the movies he didn.t.
Internet down 3 days out of 6 went to another hotel to confirm flights

A quiet nook just a bit away from the hustle & bustle

Vandana Kon 11/02/2017 11:32

We had a get together of 18 of our batch mates after many years and had booked 9 rooms on twin sharing basis. The hotel is just inside a quiet lane and has a serene atmosphere with a lot of greenery. Pool is small but very clean. Rooms are spacious and clean with fresh linen - toilets are big with hot water shower all through the day. Staff are very courteous and helpful.
Sea is a 5 minutes walk from the hotel and all the ancient temples and architectures are just a stone throw away.
Not much variety of food at the restaurant for an Indian palate as the dishes were toned down to suit western tourists. All in all a very pleasant experience.
