The Hotel National is located 5 min walk from downtown Bamberg in a busy street and is easily accessed by car. There is both an underground garage and a street-levet open garage near by. We had booked online and were met by the kind staff upon arrival. We were given directions to the parking in a street near by, before given our room. There is a lift for the 4-story hotel, breakfastrestaurant and bar. The reception has a variety of local jewelry and the special Bamberg Rausch beer. The hotel is decorated with heavy, dark wodden furniture (armchairs,sofaes, bookshelfs), giving the open spaces a homely, cosy feel. We stayed in a 4-pers two-story suite, with two single beds downstairs, one double-bed upstairs in a spacious room with access to the one bathroom w toilet, one sink and shower. The staircase is somewhat steep.
The shower has no curtain but there is a drain both in the shower and outside, so we had no problem with flodded floor. The hotel has no air condition, but the windows open fully, so we were able to cool off in the hot weather of July. The room was nicely cleaned and the beds were good and the sheets clean.
This said, the Hotel National could use a make-over with some paint and new carpets. In our room, the stair-case carpet had several holes and the wallpaper was ripped off in places and leaves you with a impression of a worn and torn hotel.
Still, the Hotel National is honest about the overall condition of the hotel, they ae located near by downtown Bamberg and

Grubby, Grim, and Grimy! That was our experience at this disgusting hotel.
We booked a 3 night stay through Booking. com and chose the option of paying for the room at the end of our stay. Fortunate for us in the event! Had we paid in advance we would have lost our money as the room and bathroom was far from acceptable as the photos will show.
A stressful start to our break as we had to spend 21 minutes on a long distance and costly phone call to Booking.com to get them to cancel our booking for the remaining 2 nights.
Having found suitable alternative accommodation we were charged euros 94.05 for 1 night's stay! Exorbitant rate for a room that should be condemned .
We booked a twin room and the nearest thing to a nightstand was a grubby rickety old chair as seen in the photos!

This was my second stay at the Hotel National and happily, it was as good as I remembered. I like the location as it is close to the train station - only a short distance to lug bags - but it's also an easy walk to Spezial and Fassla as well as the town center. And biking from the hotel is very easy.
The rooms had just been remodeled and are very modern in appearance. Our room had the bathroom immediately inside the door, with a clear glass wall between the entry and the shower; if one were sharing the room with a platonic friend, it could be awkward! Other than that, the decor was lovely. The bed was very comfortable. We faced the street and while there was some noise, it wasn't too bad having the window open at night. The second night was warmer and the staff provided a fan for the room on request.
The staff, by the way, are wonderful. Super nice and friendly, willing to help with any questions.
Breakfast was included with our room and wonderful, with a variety of food available. Everything from meat and cheese to cereal to bread. And the orange juice was real, not instant!
We greatly enjoyed our stay here and if we get back to Bamberg will book a room at the Hotel National again.

The hotel was perfectly adequate for one night in Bamburg. The location was within walking distance to the city center and old town. The hotel offered private parking at an additional fee. The breakfast buffet for around €9 was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The wifi was also pretty good.
The lobby and sleeping area of the rooms plus the breakfast room was updated, but the hallways and bathroom were outdated. The shower was about a one foot sunken basin that buckled under you when you stepped in, which didn't feel very safe. Otherwise, it was entirely functional.
I think that for a night or two this hotel is perfectly comfortable. Any longer than that and there aren't really any other amenities to take advantage of. However, I think that for Bamberg as a whole, a night or two is probably sufficient.

I stayed in the hotel for one night. Very nice location, just 5 minutes away from the station. And 10 minutes to the city center. Very comfortable room, everything is provided for your comfortable stay here.
