Mixed bag
Gwynfrynon 25/08/2017 18:18This hotel had too much of an 'all-inclusive, Brits abroad' vibe for our liking. Very commercial. To be fair, there were lots of facilities (fitness room, games room, very nice pool area) and I could see that the views from the upper rooms were spectacular. Breakfast was awesome, with probably the biggest choice of food I've ever seen. Our junior suite was very spacious too. It was the little things that let this hotel down e.g. miserable dining room staff, no kettle in room, no English-language TV channel, one very flimsy pillow per person. The cleaning staff also seemed to be under the impression that emptying the bins constituted 'making up the room'. Having said that, if you're a fan of 'resort hotels', you'll probably like this place more than we did.
Just about perfect
alan gon 24/08/2017 18:10Just returned from a week at this hotel with family where we had 2 rooms on 3rd floor where views over marina and old town were spectacular. The balcony in our room was a lovely place to sit in the evenings and watch the boating activities. Also, these rooms and, the whole hotel including corridors were nicely air conditioned. The only problem we encountered with the rooms was the wifi which worked intermittently. We booked half board. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet and more than adequate. The staff in there were excellent, as we found they were throughout the hotel. The pool area is very clean and there were always beds available probably down to the fact that no one was towel reserving beds. Again, the views from the terrace were great. Drinks and bar meals are available from the poolside bar and we would recommend the club sandwich which was very good. However, be aware that the pool water is very cold - this didn't spoil the kids fun.
It's a fairly short walk downhill into the charming old town, where there is lots to explore. If you like a peaceful, friendly holiday atmosphere, then this is a good choice. Would we return ? Absolutely, tomorrow if we could.
A very pleasant spot to spend a night
Russell Hon 21/08/2017 07:36As a solo traveller, I arrived at the hotel from an inter island ferry at 11:00am. The reception staff were very apologetic that the room was unavailable, but offered activities that I could do, using the hotel facilities.
I chose to walk to the old town, only ten minutes away.
On returning, the room was ready. I was given a double bed room, overlooking the harbour and old town. The room had all that I needed. On a very hot and humid day, the air conditioning worked well. Wifi was free, with a good signal.
On the following morning, the weather had changed, with cooling winds. The room had a large sliding door and shutters, allowing one to appreciate natural cooling.
The night buffet meal had many choices for a reasonable price.
The buffet breakfast also had many choices.
As I had an afternoon ferry to catch, the staff were only too welcome in storing my luggage, whilst I visited the old town again.
I could not fault this hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed its quiet position away from the summer crowds.
Loved Korcula !
Horsemanon 20/08/2017 18:00We spent five days in Korcula – during the Lucifer heatwave. The Hotel Marko Polo is approximately 10 minutes walk from the harbour and the old town (50 Kuna in a taxi).
Worth mentioning that we had a minor issue with our room upon arrival: our original room contained both a leak in the air conditioning and, far worse, an odour of fried food. In fairness to the management, after we complained we were quickly relocated to another room.
Facilities were good, and breakfast was excellent. The hotel could do with providing more sunbeds, as at times these were at a premium. A special mention should be made of Maya, who provided the bar and food service by the pool. She worked long hours, and was unstintingly polite and efficient – a credit to the hotel.
Korcula town is well worth exploring, with its many bars and restaurants.
Fantastic location
henn12a3on 18/08/2017 15:40We have just come back from a 10 night stay at the Marko Polo hotel. The hotel has the most amazing views of the sea, the Peljesac peninsula and of the Old Town. I would recommend a sea view room for that reason. It is located ten minutes' walk from the Old Town, slightly uphill but easy enough - a lovely stroll in the evening as the Old Town is very pretty and it is nice to look at the amazing boats moored at night. For those who love the views, make sure you climb up the Bell Tower of the cathedral.
It is only three minutes down the steps to the nearest beach - mainly concrete with a short stretch of pebbles - the sea so clear. Lovely pools and nice terrace to sit on in the evening.
Comfortable rooms, although showers and hairdryers could do with updating. Also for a 4* hotel, it would be good if they provided body wash and hair conditioner (they provide shampoo, body lotion and soap). Good selection of food at breakfast. We also had dinner on a few nights and it was very tasty and good selection too. I would particularly recommend the Dalmatian evening if you enjoy tasting new dishes. The restaurants in town are pricey for both food and drink, so the evening meal at the hotel was very good value too.
The staff were very friendly.Be aware the transfer time from Dubrovnik Airport to Korcula is three hours as the roads are very windy and narrow. If you are hoping to visit Dubrovnik (absolutely beautiful), it is best to attach it at the beginning or end of your stay rather than make a day trip.
