just a short stay (thank God)

Stayed there overnight. The hotel is centrally located. Rooms were very smelly and noisy. TV was not working. Breakfast - nothing special, and when asked for a cappuccino I was told to pay for it. Lift is very old fashioned and small. Receptionist was helpful.

Good location near an area full of pubs and restaurants

We had previously booked at Hotel Rubens but on the evening of our stay we were informed by Booking.com that such hotel does not provide reception services during the night. Hotel 900 is owned by the same proprietor. We are a family of 5 adults and we had asked for 2 separate rooms. The rooms provided were much spacious and although the hotel is a bit old style it proved to be clean. Breakfast is nothing great but is sufficient. The hotel is about 10 to 15 minutes away from Via Etnea but nearby there are a good number of pubs and good restaurants. We dined at Panecaldo which is 5 minutes away from Hotel 900.

Central comfortable hotel

No luxury or frills but very comfortable and central.

I have stayed here several times and will surely return. This is a family run hotel and theeefore they help you in the best way they can. I have not yet tried their newly opened restaurant but would love to do so bery soon!

looks are deceiving

The quad room that they put us in extremely outdated. The carpet is worn and faded. The upholstery on the couch is dirty. There was foreign objects smeared on the walls. The walls were filthy. The bathrooms have mold in the showers. The wooden beam upstairs was so dusty. There was a footprint in the dust. I asked to have the room changed due to the conditions. They offered to clean it. I was not comfortable with the room just being cleaned. I asked to have our room changed.I do not believe that the staff knew that I could understand exactly what they were saying about me in Italian.
They put us in another room. This was more updated, however, the remodel was not completed. The shower still had mold. The curtains were ripped off the valance. The air conditioner spit water periodically out onto the bed. We were suppose to stay 2 nights and only stayed one.

Central location, not much else going for it

I really wanted to be able to write a good review for this hotel, but I just can't. We stayed for 2 nights whist staying for a week in Sicily starting out at Palermo and moving to Catania so we could visit mount Etna.

Walking from the train station the area is a bit grotty with graffiti and tired looking buildings, however it is only a few mins walk from the train station.

Coming into the hotel we checked in and were shown to our room. Going up in the lift was an experience in itself, we had to squeeze in a lift that was about 40 years old if it was a day. With my partner, me and the owner it was a struggle to get the manual doors closed!

When we walked into the room we were very dejected. Very dark with horrible bedding and basic furniture that was too big for the room leaving nowhere really to get changed. The bathroom was a good size but was very dated and not really clean - there was the remnants of an old bar of soap stuffed down the plughole with no attempt to remove it.

We slept OK and went down to the buffet breakfast. Again this was very basic with no effort to make anything look nice with tesco value appliances. They ran out of cheese and made no effort to replenish it.
I had a hard boiled egg and my partner had some juice and a coffee.

All in all it was a disappointing experience and were please to only be staying for 2 nights. It gets away with it because of friendly staff and its location. They need to shut it down for a few weeks and renovate all the rooms and rejuvenate it.
