What People are saying

Beautiful, Quiet, Romantic

Regina Von 06/01/2017 00:00

My husband and I stayed here for three nights while we explored the area by car: Freiburg, Hohenzollern Castle (a massive 15th-century fortress with a fairy-tale facade, spectacularly situated overlooking the countryside), and many other points of interest. We arrived rather late, but the restaurant was still open, and to our surprise had a table waiting with our name on it. It was "our table" for the three days there. I've never seen such wonderful hospitality. This hotel in NY would run you at least twice if not 3x what we paid. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic hotel, this is the place!

FANTASTIC HOTEL AND RESTAURANT - Ideal base for a walking holiday

TRAVELLINGMAN538on 28/06/2016 12:27

I visited this hotel with my two large dogs last week , after I had been forecd to cancel a provious reservation at short notice
I cannot recommend this hotel too highly . It is perfectly situated as a base for a walking holiday or simply to explore the surrounding beautiful countryside by car
The family owners are helpful , friendly and extremelu efficient , the rooms are ultra- clean and comfortable , breakfast is excellent and so is the restaurant food and service in the evening
There is a super full size pool you can actually swim in and a sauna
My dogs and I loved it

The Tucked in Jewel of The Black Forest

TheWestfahlson 13/05/2016 18:55

This was the fifth stop on our 1,600 km trip that stretched from Munich to Salzburg through the Alps up to the Black Forest and finally the Mosel region.

We wanted to stay at places off the beaten path, away from the typical tourist locations but with a high degree of beauty and hospitality. We found it and more at Hotel Ochsenwirtshof.

Gundi and her staff have created a piece of heaven in the Schwarzwald! Besides the phenomenal hotel itself, the cleanliness and small attention to details made this location among the very best. My wife loved the flowers and decor.

The restaurant itself was amazing. Each hotel guest had a reserved table. Our waiter Marco was very kind always exceptionally friendly. The food...holy schnitzel! I could eat there three times a day and be a overjoyed and plump man. This isn't just good German food. This is great german cuisine with an abundance of creativity and flavor. My favorite was the wild venison tenderloin with cranberry and pear. My wife decreed their schnitzel and strudel the best in Germany. In my book, the prettiest glass of beer on the planet. (picture submitted) It took a couple minutes to pour but oh so worth it.

More on the hotel. They have invested in their facilities like few have. The spa, the sauna (the big red button is an alarm not a light) are excellent luxuries and the rooms/bathrooms were recently renovated for a first class modern and updated look.

Folks, this is the kind of place you plan trips around. In my opinion it was the most value for the dollar on our trip. For $130/night including breakfast with very affordable meals, it makes a perfect spot to day trip from...or just stay and relax at!

My reviews may sounds a little over the top but I usually won't write a review on a place that didn't impress me and I have a hard time giving anything a negative review. The ones that do leave a good impression definitely earn the time and attention to a good review...like this place.

A very nice hotel well situated.

After visiting France and Belgium we decided to relax in the Black Forest.
We wanted something simple and comfortable. We had all that and more at this hotel that belongs to the same family for generations.
The room was spacious enough and very comfortable. The bathroom had all the amenities and, as everything else, was sparkling clean.
When we asked for extra pillows they were delivered in 5 minutes.
The swimming pool is very nice and robes are available upon demand. They too appeared in our room a few minutes after asking.
We had chosen the half board plan. As Germany is not renowned for its food ,we did not expect much especially after leaving France and Belgium and we got a plain inexpensive German fare.
The hotel is not expensive and the menu did reflect the costs cutting. We got the same bouillon every night, once with little raviolis in it, the next night with dumplings, the following night with noodles another night they added vegetables and made a creamed vegetable soup still with the same base. The meat was always pork but they had also vegetarian dishes and fish, all of it simply prepared.
The breakfast was good and plentiful.
The nice part of the breakfast was to see the three beautiful little daughters coming to eat in their pyjamas.
Altogether quality price this is a hotel to be recommended.
