What People are saying

We got tricked by the hotel manager.

Justin Con 08/07/2017 12:30

We arrived late, the manager said we requested smoking room which was impossible since I just had lung cancer surgery last year. He then said that smoking room was default since we did not request a non-smoking one (which was not true either). The smoking room smelled really bad so we asked the possibility of upgrading and the manager said the extra charge was 30,000 yen. We went up to see the room and felt that we had no choice, then the manage said the extra would be 100,000 yen. My husband argued with him, he finally said 50,000 yen. I can't believe this is the HOTEL OKURA. We have been traveling around the world many times and it happened in Hotel OKURA, Sapporo, Japan.

Good location

The hotel was situated at a very good location. You could practically walk to everywhere around the city central. We also like their breakfast. It was amazing. If we were coming back, we would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Good location

Typical business hotel, very comfortable, close to transportation road, down town and central of sapporo; you can go everywhere just walking and also close to metro and big park in the middle of Sapporo.

If you look for a comfort & cozy place to sleep, this hotel is not your choice.

The hotel room was very very very old with low quality of bed & blanket. It like a cheap hotel contrast to the price. We thought we came to the wrong place when we saw the room. This ruins reputation of "Okura hotel." We paid for almost 250USD per night for 5 nights and it wasn't worth at all. The only one thing this hotel has is the size of the room. It quite big comparing to other hotel in Sapporo. Breakfast is fine. Then, we used this room to keep our luggages and ate breakfast while we booked nearby hotel to sleep! The nearby hotel is smaller, but its bed is very comfort & cheaper! It cost only 110USD/night. The bus bounded to New Chitose airport also stop there. It is more valuable for money that Okura. Staff at Okura also not willing to service and there is a non-reason rule like "you cannot drink anything at the hotel lobby while you're waiting for someone or your room to be ready." The only one male staff (wearing beige uniform) who taking care of our laundry clothes was friendly and attentive to guests.

Need to ASK for service

waijgjyon 13/04/2017 06:13

Because of my family size, we opted for the Spacious Twin room. The room was of a good size and had ample room to open our 3 big suitcases. Beds were just wide enough for an adult and a small child. Suggest you add extra bed if your child is bigger. Room was dated but looked clean. Bathroom was provided with Shiseido bath products and the shampoo made my hair so soft and shiny! Adequate amenities (not top quality though) were provided in room. The teabags were quite bad.

Overall, the hotel service was okay. But these incidents left an impression:
- Whenever I approached the front desk to ask for service, staff averted my gaze and gave out the vibe "uh oh, here comes the lady who speaks English, please don't come to my station" But they did provide help with a lot of hand gestures. Sorry I know it's difficult with the language barrier. But you guys are in the hospitality business and please be more welcoming to guests who don't speak Japanese.
- For me, a good hotel would go the extra mile to assist guests. For instance, when I asked the front desk, we had been here in Sapporo before and visited most of the sites on the tourist map already, please suggest some place so we can get to know Sapporo? The manager just shoved the tourist map in my face and told me to visit TV Tower again! Gee, thanx so much!
- Thanx to tripadvisor, I found the Asahi factory tour which was not on the tourist map. I asked the hotel to book the tour and they did. For that I am grateful. But they did that with the misspelled name. They read off their computer and still they got it wrong. There are 3 words in my name and 2 were misspelled.
- I booked (and paid) for an extra bed for my son. The first night we came back to the hotel and no bed was set up. It was late and we didn't want to bother anybody. The second night there was still no sign of bed at 9 pm. I had to ask front desk (again with the uneasy feeling they really don't want to talk to me in English) and they made me feel like I was begging for freebies. No apology was offered for bed no show either.
