Business Visit
KrazyJalfrezion 30/05/2017 11:10Stayed at the Arcadia for a week whilst on a business trip. The hotel is very nice and the breakfast is good as well.
I did eat at the hotel restaurant on the first night and really didn't find it that good especially. However there are a couple of nice little places to eat not that far away, Mongo's which is only a short walk away is great.
Great for the football, decent hotel
sportingfruiton 15/05/2017 15:57Came here for a match at Signal Iduna Park - just 10 minutes walk away. A huge hotel with friendly staff, the rooms could do with a little tender loving care. Did not have breakfast as was too expensive, but it was a positive stay.
Pleasant hotel, good price, convenient for soccer stadium and exhibition complex
David Fon 12/04/2017 18:27Third time I've stayed here whilst attending an event at the main exhibition centre which is just across the road.
Parking convenient in the hotel underground garage although difficult to navigate a big car without marking the alloys.
Reception friendly and efficient. Room adequate and clean but not special.
Bar area pleasant. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere but very limited menu. After the first night, we walked across the road to the Steigenberger which had a better choice of items on their menu.
Decent hotel close to the football ground
Gary Oon 31/03/2017 17:48This hotel is ok if you want to be close to the football ground, which I did!
I would stay there again if I was going to the football ground but otherwise I wouldn't bother.
The rooms are reasonably comfortable but they were very warm and could only be cooled down by opening the window. This worked in March but might not be so successful in the Summer.
The hotel is a bit dated but it is nice and clean and the bed was comfortable.
The staff were all quite friendly and helpful as well.
Overall it's an ok hotel but nothing special.
30th Birthday Surprise
Hopey88on 28/02/2017 14:56I booked this hotel as a surprise for my fiancés 30th birthday pressie so that we could go and see Borussia Dortmund football team play Wolfsburg. We stayed for 3 nights and overall had a nice time.
Location-
This hotel was a short taxi journey from Dortmund airport which costs approx €25.
The hotel was located right by the football ground which for us was great.
There is not to much to do within walking distance from the hotel, there are a couple of restaurants along the road and we found a nice bar called Uncle Tom's which was a short walk from the hotel.
We went to the main town in a taxi which again was a short journey costing under €10.
Here they have a massive mall with lots of known shops H&M etc and also has places to eat.
Also in this area is the football museum. This costs approx €17 each to enter and has lots of memrobilia, this took a couple of hours to walk around and even though I took my fiancé as part of his trip I actually quite enjoyed it to.
Rooms and hotel-
The rooms were nice, they were clean and large enough (I upgraded which included a larger room).
There was a mini fridge with some drinks and snacks (chargeable) and they also do room service if you require this.
The beds were comfy enough but the bedding wasn't that comfortable.
The actual hotel is very nice, clean and grand.
Food and drink-
The restaurant in the hotel is a lovely little restaurant but unfortunately we didn't feel very welcome.
The majority of people staying in the hotel were German and most staff had limited English.
We went for a evening meal at the restaurant and out tables had reserved signs (although these were not actually and had not been used) we were told we had to find a table without a sign. We found 1 of 2 tables left right by the bar and where people wait to be seated in the restaurant.
We were given a German menu and we're left for a long time. In this time we saw a couple waiting to be seated who also did not have a reserved table. She walked them over to one of the reserved tables and lit a candle and offered to take their coats. We had a very different welcome to this. She finally came back over and gave us a English menu.
We ordered our food and the food was nice.
While we were eating we realised that other tables were being given two food menus (bar menu as well as restaurant menu) this had more food some more reasonably priced. We were not offered this.
The breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and we couldn't fault this. Again it could be difficult to get a table without a reserved sign even though we were booked in to have breakfast.
We used the bar and service here was good. Very busy meaning we couldn't always get a seat and when asking if we could order from the bar menu the next event from the chairs and tables in the main reception area we were told we can only order if eating in the bar ( even though the table we were sat at had empty plates, used cutlery etc and we could see this had definitely been eaten at.
The football game was great and the hotel got into the spirt serving beers and brutwursts before the game and many of the staff wore football shirts.
The football stadium is massive and very impressive. It does get very very crowed and loud, lots of olice and police horses present to make sure everything ran smoothly.
We were also charged €35 when leaving for City Tax- I would have thought this would have been included in the hotel price.
Overall the hotel was good and we had a nice break , just a couple of things that let it down and we would probably return.
