Beautiful views
MJHA2014on 17/05/2017 19:54A place that has passed its most glorious times. Neighbouring spa provides nice frame for families, otherwise a grand face-lift is expected to take place. Evening buffet is positive, especially due to remote, but beautiful, location from the town center. For families, especially.
A basic and VERY quiet hotel - nothing special!
Petri Ion 20/03/2017 14:59This hotel has changed some of its textiles because they changed the name of the hotel from Rantasipi to Cumulus. Been here many times over the year... The lobby looks now nicer (new modern chairs etc).
The rooms are very basic - nothing special, but you get a good night sleap with a normal price in Finland 110-120€ per night. They used to include a visit to the spa, but nowadays you need to buy for it. The price is 14,50€ per adult (a family of two pays 49€!!!!/per day - clearly over priced). You also need to add a rope and slippers, both 5€ each per person. This used to be MUCH cheaper when the visit was included and the rope were in the hotel room price. Unfortunately, you get a feeling that this hotel seems to be penny pinching, pay extra for bath ropes, slippers and the spa ticket. The price of the hotel room has NOT gone down for 25€ or more! :(
The hotel has polite staff. ;) Their breakfast is ok, nothing special - I was missing egg butter to my karjalanpiirakka - traditional Finnish breakfast pies. Also the tomatoes, which seem to come to the hotel chain in a "ready sliced box" were discusting (typic for this chain, sorry to say. SOMOBODY you buys them, hopefully east them oneday!!!!)... like eating wet paper! Other than that the breakfast was ok and lunch actually very good (price 20€)!
The surroundings is VERY nice and FREE parking!
good for families, great breakfast
Paivi79on 10/01/2017 08:29I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel after reading the general comments here. The room was spacious and clean, as the whole hotel. The beds were very good, the whole family slept well. The staff was friendly and the service good. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice, also for special diets -I haven't seen such a gluten free variety anywhere else in Finland, so thank you for that. The only downside was a slight smell of mould in the dining hall (breakfast room), so probably a check on that and renovation would be good. The spa tickets are not included in the hotel price, as they are two separate enterprises, although you can buy tickets 1 eur cheaper at the reception and get a key for the connecting hallway.
Have to make a separate review on the spa itself, but here a short glimpse: The spa...well, took me back to the 90s, so got a cozy feeling, but unfortunately the spa needs renovation badly: broken and missing tiles here and there, leaking seams and rusty leak marks on the walls, the sail in the ceiling is dirty and rusty and should be replaced. There is occasional smell of sewage in the spa and in the showers, and the smell of mould at the stairs next to the big water slide. Also, I bet the amount of chlorine in the water is high, as our skins were itching still on the next day, which does not usually happen after swimming unless swimming in very old facilities with no modern filtering systems. I would recommend a renovation and a check on drains and a replacement of water filtering systems. Otherwise, the services were good, nice locker rooms (despite of the old fashioned locking systems) and steam sauna, warm water and the good old wave machine :)
Child-friendly hotel, good food, great spa
Markus Lon 28/11/2016 09:46We used the Rantasipi Tropiclandia as a pitstop on our way from Lapland to Southern Finland. Our main selection criteria was that we needed a hotel that allowed our dog. The hotel has a few dedicated pet rooms, which are quit spacey, even with two rollaway beds. There was a welcome pack for the dog (some treats, poop bags, a toy and a couple of discount coupons for pet services) and no fuss was made with our big dog. As it was a rainy day, we chose to eat at the hotel, and were organized a table on the glass-covered terrace next to the restaurant, so we were able to have our dog with us for dinner. The same arrangement worked also for breakfast. We got excellent service from the gentleman who was waiting on us for dinner, and his recommendations for food were superb. Also our dog got a water bowl without any fuss.
The room was perhaps a bit dated, but in good shape, and the room and the bathroom were well cleaned and everything was in working order.
We paid extra for tickets to the spa (discounted from walk-in prices, but not included in the room rate like in some other spa hotels), and liked it very much. Although it was a cold summer day and the spa did not have many guests, the water in the outdoors pools was pleasantly warm. The spa was clean and had sufficient number of pools and slides. There is a covered bridge from the hotel to the spa - one has to dress into swimsuit in the room and wear the robe from the room to walk through the lobby of the spa, a bit strange feeling with other people wearing their outdoor clothes, but not an uncommon practice in spa hotels in Finland.
The breakfast was a standard Finnish hotel breakfast with something for everyone, but not with excessive varieties.
All-in all a pleasant experience, not very far from downtown Vaasa.
Nice hotel for business functions
bethzaidaton 14/05/2016 18:27Stayed here for 1wk of biz training held on premises. Breakfast and lunch were part of our package but, hotel rate does include breakfast. Food is good, fresh and plenty of. Bread is excellent but, so is everywhere in Vaasa!
For a biz function, this hotel works. My biggest issue was the overall condition of the hotel and rooms. Hotel is outdated. Rooms don't have air conditioning. However, there was a small fan I was able to use even after leaving 1 window opened. Housekeeping is to the minimum (i.e. change of towels and/or bed only when requested).
As a tourist this hotel wouldn't be my 1st choice unless I was here with small children. If only adults, I would stay in the city.
P.s. picture is of their backgrounds. Definitely nicely kept!
